Following explosions in public areas in some provinces during 11-12 August, 2016, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed local authorities to step up security at key locations throughout Thailand as preventive measure and to ensure safety and security for tourists and local residents.

–      TAT domestic offices have been assigned to look after the welfare of injured tourists and to facilitate support services for all foreign and Thai visitors in their area. The offices will provide assistance and coordinate with local authorities as needed.

–      These incidents are currently under police investigation. And while it is not yet known who is behind the blasts, or if the attacks are linked, an investigation is in process.

–      Meanwhile, planned events and tourism activities continue in Thailand as the nation celebrates the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Mother’s Day today (12 August, 2016).

–      All airports, as well as modes of transport nationwide, continue to be operating normally, but tourists and travellers are advised to prepare adequate travelling time to avoid getting caught in traffic due to large movements of people during this long-weekend holiday period.

–      TAT is monitoring and assessing the tourism situation and will be providing further details as the situation develops. In the meantime, we would like to encourage travellers to obtain information from various sources to get a balanced understanding about the reality on the ground in Thailand, so that they can plan their trips accordingly.
