As part of its global Peninsula in Pink breast cancer awareness month campaign, The Peninsula Hotels has partnered with the online auction house, Paddle8, for the sale of the iconic Nao Nao (挠挠) interactive artworks by Chen Man, China’s most acclaimed photographer and visual artist, to raise funds for breast cancer charity partners. The 10 exclusive pieces were specially created by Chen Man for The Peninsula’s Art of Pink charitable campaign, and are being exhibited at each hotel during October. The pink masterpieces are available for auction at Paddle8.com/PenInPink from 17 to 31 October 2016, and the proceeds will be donated to each hotel’s local breast cancer charity partner.
Now in its sixth year, the annual Peninsula in Pink breast cancer awareness campaign adopts the Art of Pink theme to celebrate the landmark renovation of The Peninsula Beijing, which is inspired by China’s exquisite combination of classic and contemporary art and culture. As China becomes an important global influencer in art and fashion, Beijing-born Chen Man’s inventive visual juxtapositions suffused with Eastern themes and iconography set her apart as an artistic trendsetter.
For the 2016 Art of Pink campaign, Chen Man created Nao Nao, a collection of vibrant yet intimate photographs imbued with a subtle feminine theme. Covering each piece are two pink dots – symbols of breasts and a colon, the punctuation preceding a conversation. Visitors can use Chinese Nao Nao bamboo sticks to remove the punctuating dots and simultaneously unveil the complete image and create a new dialogue about breast cancer. Chen Man personally chose each installation to be exhibited at each Peninsula hotel for this year’s Art of Pink breast cancer awareness campaign.
