The programme opens an opportunity for new entrepreneurs to introduce their products through the HKTDC Small Order Zone, a marketing solution which will feature products in fairs and an online marketplace with an integrated system. SMEs only need to send their products to be showcased to Hong Kong, saving the need for them to travel to the actual fair, which can help SMEs to save cost and time. The application opens for entrepreneurs in houseware, gifts & premium, fashion and accessories.
Ten of them will be selected to showcase their potential in HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair – the largest in Asia, and HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2017 – the largest in the world. Special this year will be an opportunity for 10 Thai fashion designers to showcase their products in HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2017. The application also opens for 3 new-generation designers to experience introducing their products at BETrend in Siam Paragon and Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) with a total of 23 SMEs. Today (29 November 2016) The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) joins forces with Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) with support of Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), BETrend from The Mall Group Company Limited, Cathay Pacific Airways and Livinism Company Limited to launch the third Thai Access to International Markets Competition (THAI AIM). The programme will promote and support new SMEs and designers to have an opportunity to introduce their products directly to buyers from around the world.
Dr. Wimonkan Kosumas, Deputy Director General, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) said, “As the government assigns OSMEP to develop and assist 30,000 existing and new SMEs this year in order for Thailand to have an economic structure based on entrepreneurship, we are cooperating with HKTDC on Thai AIM. SMEs and entrepreneurs who submit their entries will get a chance to test their products and marketing strategy in real, not only in Thailand but in the world or Asia’s largest marketplace.” To be a finalist, SMEs and entrepreneurs need to submit at 20-second product video to the organiser for public voting on Facebook, which requires them not only to develop a good product, but also be creative on online marketing.
“This is our tool to encourage new start-ups, which is in accordance with OSMEP’s policy to create additional 10,000 new entrepreneurs.” Dr. Wimonkan said.
Mr. Sunny Chau, Director, Thailand at Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), recognises the tremendous growth potential in Thai SMEs. HKTDC aims to promote entrepreneurs in creative design, particularly SMEs in Thailand,.
“Hong Kong is Thailand’s fourth largest export destination after the US, China and Japan, although Hong Kong is a 7-million economy. This demonstrates that Hong Kong is an effective platform for Thai products to export to the world.” Mr. Chau said.
“At In Style Hong Kong last month, our biggest ever event in Thailand to celebrate the first year of AEC, we received a lot of enquiries about how to export through Hong Kong. This is why we are collaborating with OSMEP and other partners to launch Thai AIM again.” Said Mr. Chau.
BETrend from the Mall Group is supporting the competition for the second year. Ms. Sirorat Phanrin, Merchandising Division Manager of BETrend from the Mall Group mentioned, “We will provide space for product showcases at Siam Paragon for the finalists to test run their products locally before competing in two international fairs in Hong Kong. We are proud to be a co-organizer of Thai AIM as we are known for our creative products, and Thailand is a source of creativity. This is a meaningful activity to discover hidden talents in Thailand and BETrend will present the finalists’ products in our shops so we can help groom SMEs’ brands to get them ready for the global arena.”
