This year’s Asia Fair Trade Summit kicked off on October 19th in the beautiful Sampran Riverside Resort. Leaders and ingenues of fair and sustainable business gathered together during the three-day convening to lend their voices to topics ranging from gender equity, to branding, to increasing market access for small producers. The summit won accolades from across the Fair Trade community and the unprecedented attendance – 223 representatives from 26 countries and a wide spectrum of fields participated – evinces the incredible momentum that the Fair Trade movement has managed to gather in just a few decades. The workshops and activities organized have been praised by attendees for their relevance and potential for practical application as we seek to bring Fair Trade practices deeper into the mainstream. This year has also seen a growing role for technology in advancing Fair Trade.

Through a series of online webinars collectively known as Scaling Up Fair Trade, WFTO has managed to connect small producers from across Asia with buyers around the world seeking Fair Trade products. Through this online marketing platform, all the most pivotal agents of change were successfully brought together in one space.
