Royal initiatives for sustainable lifestyle   have led to pleasant eco-tourism options. Here’s part two of the tri-article series on attractions of the beautiful region.

Ban Khao Tao professional Handicraft centre, Pran Buri


Activities: Watch unique weaving techniques using traditional northern looms called ‘kee kratook’ at the Royals initiated project to create alternative earning for local fishermen during off season of fishing in monsoon period. Watch, learn about and also buy arts, crafts and antiques at artist studios, large galleries and at the gift shop. Pose and take memorable pictures at artistically created backdrops. Squeeze different colours of paint on to the paper bag, smear it with sticks to create patterns (there is help of a professional), let it dry and take back the art to frame and display the art in your drawing room. Enjoy a few moments reminiscing wonderful art you just witnessed, with a coffee and cake at the attached coffee shop. You might even be lucky to view a special art exhibition, many of which are frequently hosted here.

Amazing factor: To see Hua Hin’s famous artist Tawee Keso-ngam paint to the rhythm of the drums to create an excellent piece of art and to watch aesthetic creations by various Hua Hin artists.



Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park, Phang-nga

Activities: There’s never a dull moment at this 142 acre agro-tourism site that is based on integrated farming system that conserves environment and rehabilitates the forest. Good place to learn about poly-culture farming system, a new farming theory from the King’s royal initiatives such as sustainable agriculture, non-toxic farming, organic farming and agro-forestry with hands-on activities.  Propelling seeds into the forest, tossing paddy saplings onto the rice field and planting a new tree.
