Despite the soaring temperatures hardy Skålleagues hid from the heat in the lovely air conditioned comfort of Enoteca Great Fine Wine at Fifth Avenue Meechoke on Thursday April 28. They enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and colleagues along with the delicious food of Chef Filippo.

The evening saw both Skål Chiang Mai President Tim McGuire and Vice President Annette Kunigagon away for holidays in cooler climes while Events Director Philippe Van Laetham held down the fort with the assistance of Media Director Shana Kongmun and Assistant Events Director Jaffee Yee for a fun and intimate evening.

The evening began with cocktails and conversation as members and friends discussed the weather (top of the conversation!) and the upcoming Skål Asia Congress that will be held in Singapore from July 14 – 17, 2016. The Skål Asia Area consists of 2,200 members in 38 Clubs, 23 grouped in five national committees and 15 affiliated, the Skål Asian Area is perhaps the most diverse Area in the world of Skål, reaching from Guam in the Pacific Ocean more than 10,000 km to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean with clubs in 17 countries in between.

All members are invited to attend this great networking event that will see clubs from around Asia join in and Skål International President Nigel Pilkington will be attending the event. Skal Asia President Robert Sohn recently announced “All Skål clubs in Asia that send seven or more delegates to the Singapore congress in July will receive a complimentary registration for the 2017 Congress in Bahrain.” Registration for the event can be found online here: https://ewp.eventsair.com/skal-asia-area-congress-singapore/registration/Site/Register. World Skål Day also fell on the same day as the Chiang Mai meeting and celebrates the establishment of Skål in 1934 as an International Association of Travel & Tourism Professionals, the only global association promoting tourism and friendship.

 

Former Skål Chiang Mai President Marc Dumur of Vivo Bene showed up in time to give the Skål toast in English with Ladarat Silueang of Sala Lanna giving the toast in English. Future venues were discussed including Sala Lanna in a few months and next month’s venue at Ginger & Kafe at The House on Moon Muang Road.

The intimate evening showed the strong bonds of friendship of Skål Chiang Mai members and cemented the working relationships of those here in Chiang Mai. Chef Filippo was congratulated on an excellent evening and everyone is looking forward to next month’s event at a new venue.

Skål Events Director Philippe Van Laetham vowed to introduce members to different restaurants and venues during his tenure and continues to show his commitment to that goal with yet another exciting venue for May. Next month’s event will be held on May 26 at the Ginger & Kafe at the House at 6:30pm. Once the menu is finalized registration will be open and bookings will be online only as always.
