Skal Christmas fundraiser gala a roaring success

Email

Skål Chiang Mai held their gala Christmas fundraiser on Tuesday, December 12 at the fabulous Le Meridien Chiang Mai where new General Manager Rajat Chatterjee was on hand on is very first day to greet Skålleagues and guests.

The fundraiser was a huge success with fabulous donations from Chiang Mai, around Thailand and overseas. The club raised 198,950 baht for the children at the Mae Mha Orphanage and School in Chiang Dao. With 8,000 baht leftover from last year the club will be able to support the school with 207,300 baht.

Each year the club supports the school with essentials such as rice, frozen meat, canned goods, school supplies and other necessary items. A huge shopping trip will be held in January with the trip to the school scheduled for January 28. Anyone wanting to join in to help with the shopping or join the trip please email info@skalchiangmai.com. A second trip will be scheduled for June to top the school up on their supplies.

The evening started out with cocktails in the lobby where members and friends chatted and enjoyed the huge Christmas tree and the affable general manager Rajat, who despite it being his first day of work and a full schedule, took the time to meet everyone. Also on hand was the new general manager of X2 Chiang Mai Ewan Taylor, which saw some discussion about the name (It’s Cross 2!) and a warm welcome from Chiang Mai residents for them both.

The group then ascended the stairs to the ballroom for a fabulous dinner with a slideshow of the orphanage trips as a back drop. The Skal toast was given by Marc Dumur and Utsanee “Aey” Sripet. The bidding for the silent and live auctions was brisk while the raffle prizes elicited many happy responses from the winners of vouchers for Rimping, Woo, and others.

The live auction bidding was run by President Tim McGuire with help from Vice President Annette Kunigagon and Media Director Shana Kongmun but everyone agrees, Tim really hits his stride when auctioneering! The winners of the live auction prizes included Brian Pern, Janet Hennessey, Trevor Dobson and Max Thammaraks, many thanks to them and all our prize winners and donors for their generous support.

The service was impeccable and the meal delicious, with Le Meridien Chiang Mai restaurant and bar manager Nicolas Calvert making sure everyone was taken care of. A certificate of thanks was given to the Le Meridien team in thanks for the fabulous evening.

The gala fundraising party was a great success and we are looking forward to visit the kids on January 28. If you can help with the shopping or wish to go please contact Tim directly or email info@skalchiangmai.com
