A delegation of The Athenee Hotel’s management and associates, led by general manager ChooLeng Goh, called in on the Sookjai Organics Community Enterprise in Nakhon Pathom to see the organic farming operations for themselves and start selecting produce suitable for consumption by the hotel’s highly discerning guests.
“We know we must be sustainable to ensure that our business thrives but we are equally strongly motivated by our care for our guests’ health and desire to give them refined experiences,” explained Ms Goh.
As such, the produce must be certified free from insecticides and chemical fertilisers. Besides rice, they examined prime fresh, organic vegetables and fruits as well as a wide range of processed agricultural goods produced by over 100 farming families in Nakorn Pathom, Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
With mission accomplished, plans are in motion for the hotel’s rooms division to convert its welcome fruit baskets to 100 percent organic fruit from 1 July 2018 onwards.
Q2, 2018 will also see the hotel’s international chef teams devoting substantial tracts of their menus to dishes exclusively featuring organic and seasonal produce. Smooth Curry, the hotel’s renowned authentic Thai cuisine restaurant, will lead the way with expanded use of organically-grown vegetables, and all restaurants will promote 100 percent organic menus, coming soon.
