Backyard Travel, the online boutique tour operator specializing in insider tours throughout Asia, today announced the launch of a tour through Northern Thailand. Exploring the pristine rolling landscapes of the Golden Triangle along the Myanmar border, this journey brings travelers to remote hill tribe villages, showcasing diverse local cultures against a backdrop of spectacular natural scenery.
The 8-day, 7-night Mae Hong Son Loop Tour begins with a city tour of Chiang Rai before heading into the heart of the Golden Triangle to Chiang Saen. Here, travelers see where the Ruak and Mekong Rivers converge and the border between Laos, Thailand and Myanmar blurs. The loop then winds through spectacular mountain roads, stopping at Pai, Soppong, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and myriad villages in between, where caves, lakes, hot springs, ruins, temples and museums all await discovery. There’s also a visit to the Pang Tong Royal Development Project established by the late Thai King to give local villages an alternative to opium farming. The tour ends in Chiang Mai, the ‘Rose of the North’.
‘We’re seeing increasing demand for experiential travel that goes beyond the major cities” says Maeve Nolan, General Manager of Backyard Travel. “This tour brings travelers up much farther into Northern Thailand than many venture, introducing them to a region – and all its fascinating history and culture”
