Since 1999, Smiling Albino, a Bangkok-based travel planning company, has been designing and running unique trips in Southeast Asia utilizing their broad-based local knowledge and personal relationships. Canadian expatriate-come local Thai celebrity Daniel Fraser founded the bespoke DMC with little more than a deep knowledge of Thailand and a knack for befriending local movers and shakers. Today the company is among the region’s most revered upscale adventure tour operators in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Nepal.
This year, Smiling Albino has developed new trips that delve into the heart of Cambodia and offer high-end cultural experiences in Vietnam. Active day tours out of Siem Reap include cycling, kayaking and hiking expeditions deep into the mountains and lakes surrounding Angkor Wat, while new relationships forged in Vietnam can see Smiling Albino guests enjoying tea in an aristocratic Hanoi home learning about Vietnam’s turbulent history from a noble who lived through much of it. For something a little more daring, try water skiing the Saigon River for a new scenic perspective of Ho Chi Minh City. Smiling Albino has also raised the bar on luxury experiences in Southeast Asia. Luxury camping in the northern jungles of Thailand or on pristine white-sand beaches in the far south are not only lavish, but offer rare opportunities to experience nature far from other travelers.
“Smiling Albino endeavors to offer experiences our guests have not experienced before, and take them places no one they know have been – in comfort. The luxury we deal in excites all the senses. We have worked hard this year seeking out and surveying more locations, sensations and activities to create some very exciting new adventures”, yelled Fraser, from his Triumph Bonneville as we descended the Tonkinese mountains into Dien Bien Phu.
Fraser will be in New York City September 1-7, Toronto September 8-12 andCalgary September 13-19, to talk about these innovative new trips and offer insight to the evolving luxury travel scene in Asia. He will also be hosting a Media Luncheon on September 8th in Toronto, as well as the 3rd annual “Destination Thailand” Street Festival at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto on Sept. 10. All are welcome to visit for some authentic Thai food, beer and culture.
An award-winning Thai television documentary host, Fraser is a recognized face of Thai Tourism by filming the global Thailand ad campaign, as well as collaborating on such shows as BBC’s Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure.
