Airbnb Expands Experiences in Asia Pacific


Airbnb has opened up three new Asia Pacific (APACmarkets for its Trips ‘Experiences’ – curated activities guided by local insiders – enabling hospitality entrepreneurs in Melbourne, Bali, and Hong Kong (early Decemberto capitalise on the growing shared economy and shift towards more authentic travel experiences.

Launched globally in November 2016, there are now more than 3,100 Airbnb Experiences offered in over 40 cities worldwide, 600 of which are in APACAirbnb Experience hosts have earned more than 204 million baht to date, while in APAC booked Experiences is growing at 14 times since January 2017. Tokyo is one of the top five most popular global markets by bookings. 

These new market launches will add more than 120 new Experiences to the existing portfolio available across APAC which already includes Bangkok, Queenstown, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City, New Delhi, Osaka, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and TokyoOther upcoming additions to the Trips platform globally include Hawaii, Buenos Aires, Costa Rica and Jamaica, all launching before the year end.

Experiences are part of Airbnb’s expansion from accommodation hosting on the Airbnb to an endtoend travel platformLike its home sharing platform, Trips focuses on unique and authentic activities that vary from Kimono making or exploring the local fish market in Japan, Muay Thai Boxing or cycle tours of the city in Bangkok, all led by local hosts, passionate about their activity and cityEach Experience is carefully curated to help guests receive a high quality and unique adventureThis approach has resulted in around 90of guest reviews of Experiences receiving a five star rating.
