Lufthansa Group demonstrates further commitment in Thailand, Vietnam and the Mekong region in 2018

Lufthansa Group has presented the best result in history last month at the Annual General Meeting. Group revenue rose by 12.4 percent to EUR35.6 billion in 2017 and shareholders profit with 60% higher dividend. With this success, Lufthansa Group is committed to growing its presence overall in Thailand and the Mekong region in 2018 by bringing an array of latest products, routes, and digitalisation initiatives.

After the brand relaunch in February this year, Lufthansa Group’s modernisation journey continues with the core strategy of three pillars – the Network Airlines, the Eurowings Group, and Aviation Services – continuing to invest in quality and digitalisation with the key focus on saving costs and improving efficiencies.

“Being the only 5-star European airline, it is important to continue reinventing ourselves to provide premium travel experiences for our customers. We understand the importance of personalisation combined with digitalisation for travellers nowadays. Based on this philosophy, I am very pleased to announce we are working on an exciting project with Siam Commercial Bank which will go live in the next few weeks,” said Mr. Stefan Molnar, General Manager Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and the Mekong Region.

Other than that, Austrian Airlines has successfully upgraded all of its 11 long-haul aircraft early this year with the carrier’s latest Premium Economy travel class. This new travel class is already available on the Bangkok – Vienna route offering travellers with considerably more comfortable seat, two pieces of check-in luggage at no charge and quality culinary delights. Bangkok is the only Southeast Asian destination that Austrian Airlines serves.

Additionally, Lufthansa now offers its newly-designed Dream Collection on Business Class from and to Bangkok. In addition to a new pillowcase and a large, warm blanket, the Dream Collection delivers a comfortable mattress topper that soothes the long-haul travel of Business Class passengers. A new sleeping shirt from Van Laack is also available for the long journey for further cosiness.

Jointly as Lufthansa Group, there are several updates to be introduced in the winter timetable of 2018/2019 in this region as well. While Eurowings has recently launched its latest long-haul flight from Munich to Bangkok twice a week this summer, during the winter season, Eurowings will consolidate its long-haul operations focusing on operations out of Düsseldorf instead of various outbound German cities. With this operational change, Eurowings will serve Bangkok four times per week from Düsseldorf and that’s an additional 25% of frequency compared to now collectively.

In this year’s winter schedule, Lufthansa continues to serve Bangkok route with its flagship Airbus A380-800, offering four travel classes First, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy, bringing 509 passengers between Thailand and Germany. And Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline and sister company of Swiss International Air Lines, on top of the existing route between Zurich and Phuket for winter schedule, Edelweiss is introducing a new route from 15th November 2018 onwards between Zurich and Ho Chi Minh City.

Overall, Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Edelweiss) offers 29 weekly flights from Thailand to Europe; and 31 weekly flights from Thailand and Vietnam to Europe in the winter schedule this year.
