As part of the celebrations for the annual Phuket Vegetarian Festival, Novotel Phuket Phokeethra and ibis Styles Phuket City prepared a table of offerings.

The widely popular Phuket Vegetarian Festival took place this year between September 28th 2019 and October 7th 2019. The festival, which is also recognised as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, is centred on the belief that abstaining from meat and stimulants like alcohol during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar will bring good health and luck to your household.

During the celebrations on the island, locals and tourists alike enjoy delicious vegetarian food prepared in restaurants and stalls, they take part in daily processions, witness rituals unique to the unique heritage of the island.

To celebrate the annual festival, the teams at Novotel Phuket Phokeethra and ibis Styles Phuket City participated in several different rites. The teams also came together to prepare a table of offerings to pay respect to the Chinese Gods at Bang Liao shrine, one of the island’s most famed places of worship. The table of offerings featured fresh fruits like apples, oranges, watermelons, pineapples, pomelos, bananas and tea.

As both Accor properties aim to curate an experience that ties in with the local culture, this was an example of employees and management participating in events that give back to the local community.
