Avana Retreat Opens Mountainside Yoga & Meditation Center

While the practices of yoga and meditation invite us to journey inwards, Avana Retreat is stimulating the expedition with jaw-dropping panoramas of some of Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain scenery.

Opened in November, the H’mong Cottage is perched 450 meters above sea level and drinks in rolling hills dressed in tiered rice paddies, bamboo groves and verdant forest.

The name pays tribute to the design inspiration, the local H’mong community, and the new center is based on the wooden cottages, with thatched palm-leaf roofs, that are scattered across the steep terraced fields. The H’mong believe that the hills, valleys, and wind all have individual spirits, and their cottages reflect their connection to the natural environment, where they stay as they tend to their crops.

Sliding walls, with floor-to-ceiling glass panels, have been added so the view can still be enjoyed during cooler months. During warmer seasons the panels slide back to allow for natural air conditioning.

“We wanted to provide more opportunities for guests to relax, unwind, and enjoy wellness practices that help mitigate the stresses of everyday life, while also enjoying one of the biggest health tonics we offer here – our unparalleled lush landscape,” said Mr. Vu Huy, founder of Avana Retreat.

Sessions at the new center are complimentary to guests, with advance reservations required, and follow the schedule below:

  • Hatha Yoga: Daily from 7 – 8 am
  • Yin Yoga: Every Saturday and Sunday from 8:15 – 9:15 am
  • Singing Bowl Meditation: Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 10:00 – 10:45 am
  • Sleeping Meditation: Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 1:00 – 1:45 pm

Guests can also book private sessions, for an additional fee.

Avana Retreat consists of 36 spacious villas with indigenous design spread over 15-hectares of jungled mountainside and terraced rice fields. The heart of the resort is an untouched waterfall, which inspired the whole property when the retreat’s founder came across it while hiking over a decade ago. The property is a 3.5-hour drive from Hanoi. For more information visit: https://avanaretreat.com/
