COVID-19 continues to spread to more people across the globe, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting the highest number of daily new cases at about 228,000 persons. In Thailand, 14 new cases were reported among people arriving from abroad, all of whom are in state quarantine facilities.
The 14 new cases located in state quarantine facilities, include one Thai returnee from Bahrain, one from the United States, and 12 from Sudan, most of whom are showing no symptoms. The current cumulative cases figure, now stands at 3,216, with one more recovery. The total number of recovered persons is now at 3,088, while fatalities remain at 58.
There are now 12,625,860 cumulative cases of COVID-19 across 213 countries and territories. The WHO on Friday reported a record-breaking number of daily new cases numbering 228,102 persons, mostly in the United States, Brazil, and India.
The United States remains the country with the most COVID-19 cases, at 3,291,786 persons, followed by Brazil with 1,804,338 cases, and India with 822,603 cases.
The global death toll now stands at 562,820 persons, while 7,361,659 persons have already recovered from the disease, mostly in the United States at 136,671 persons, Brazil at 70,524, and the United Kingdom at 44,650 persons.
The WHO Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director Dr Michael Ryan, said yesterday it is very unlikely that COVID-19 can be eradicated entirely, but countries around the world can prevent a tragic second wave of infections by preventing the emergence of big clusters, following the easing of lockdown measures.
