CP Foods joins a campaign to plant one million trees

 Charoen Pokphand Foods Pcl (CP Foods) strongly supports the government’s plan to reduce air pollution in Bangkok through “Green City by MOAC” campaign by growing 1 million seedlings.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on jointly kicked off the campaign at Siam Paragon on 9th February 2020.

CP Foods’ Chief Executive Officer Prasit Boondoungprasert said the company will support a total of 250,000 seedlings out of a million seedlings. Of the total, 100,000 seedlings will be given away to CP Freshmart’s customers through its 160 branches in Bangkok, while 30,000 seedlings will be distributed to the public in Silom area and the remainder 120,000 trees will be planted in the area under BTS line.

“The benefit of the country and people is at the heart of our business. The campaign will better air quality in Bangkok,” he said.
Six plants, including Calathea plant, Little Yellow Star, Spider plant, Ferns, Coat buttons, and Cypress Tree, have been selected for this campaign. According to the study from the National Research Council of Thailand, these plants can absorb air pollution effectively.

To mitigate the impact of climate change, CP Foods has initiated reforestation projects, covering the areas of 10,000 rai. These projects are 5,971 rai of Rak Ni-Ves, Pasak Watershed, Khao Phraya Doen Tong Project in Lopburi, 2,388 rai of Grow-Share-Protect Mangrove Forestation Project in Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Chumphon, Phang Nga, and Songkhla provinces. The company also planted 1,720 rai of trees within its farms and operations.

Interested people can take part in “Green City” project by registering at the website www.green-city.online to select up to five seedlings per person.
