Digital Revolution: Huawei Transforms Thailand’s Education

Leading technology company Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently organized the first-ever “Huawei Thailand Education Summit 2023” under the theme “Accelerate the Digital Journey of Education” in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand, introducing the latest trends and technologies with the aim of elevating the readiness and response of Thailand’s education sector to changes in the digital era.

Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), honored the summit with his visit and addressed the major function of MHESI, which is to enhance manpower and ensure excellence as key factors towards strengthening Thailand’s global competitiveness and sustainability. He explained that to further develop and drive Thailand towards Industry 4.0, talent development is essential, particularly in the digital sector, as technology is the foundation of every industry’s development.

Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul elaborated: “Last year, MHESI collaborated with Huawei Thailand to release the Thailand National Digital Talent Development White Paper, the study results of which show that Thailand is set to encounter a digital personnel shortage as high as 500,000 talents by the year 2030, especially personnel specializing in 5G, IoT, and Cloud in Level 4 (Advanced) technology. Today, I would like to congratulate Khon Kaen University and Huawei Thailand for the laying the foundation of the Huawei ICT Academy Support Center. Talent incubation must proceed through co-creation between academic institutes and the industrial sector in order to create a society that is ready to sustainably support graduates of every generation.”

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, also spoke at the summit: “Khon Kaen University is currently on course with its own digital transition by initiating goals towards becoming a Smart Campus and Smart University, not only academically, but also holistically in terms of people, concepts, and technologies. All of these play an important role in transforming Khon Kaen University and driving us towards Paperless or Digitalization standards.”

“I am so grateful for events like this, which enable us to witness forthcoming technological trends and allows IT companies who have world-class industrial experience to showcase potential technologies and innovations that will inspire new ideas for various applications suitable for us and other respective organizations,” he added.

Mr. Kevin Cheng, President of Thailand Enterprise Business Group, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., explained that the education sector is one of Huawei’s major markets in Thailand: “Huawei not only selects technologies and solutions in response to requirements, but also ensures the promotion and development of the entire ecosystem to maximize the utilization of technologies to elevate Thailand’s education and teaching systems. The best technologies may not be suitable for everyone, and as such, selecting what truly meets the requirements of an organization is better when responding to its mission and goals. As an ICT leader, Huawei is committed to collaborating with clients and partners to apply network, AI, cloud computing, and other technologies to the education system, as well as to developing human resources with innovative competencies, accelerating scientific research innovations, and narrowing the digital divide of education resource development.”

In addition, Huawei highlighted the digital transition of Khon Kaen University as a preparation guideline for other institutes and organizations.

In addition, Huawei collaborated with ICT partners to bring new education technologies to be displayed at WUNCA 43 (the Workshop on UniNet Network and Computer Application No. 43) at Khon Kaen University during 10-13 July 2023. At this workshop, Khon Kaen University and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the establishment of a Huawei Academy Support Center, which will serve as Huawei’s representative for exclusive ICT talent development in the Northeastern region. It is the first program in Thailand with the aim of becoming a center of collaboration and promotion for ICT talent development and will provide support on transferring technological knowledge in the Northeastern region, e.g., technological training courses for teachers and students.

This further extends to a collaboration between educational institutes to enhance students’ potential to handle technological transitions and to jointly develop manpower from the Northeastern region that will enter the ICT industry labor market in future and equip them with useful technological skills.
