EHL Scholarships Empower Phuket’s Hospitality Pros: Phuket Hotels Association Leads the Way

PHUKET HOTELS ASSOCIATIONThe Phuket Hotels Association, a non-profit organization representing 82 of the island’s top hotels and resorts, is spearheading the development of local talent by awarding educational scholarships to exceptional candidates. In partnership with the EHL Hospitality Business School, the association has granted financial support to associates from three of its member hotels in Phuket to take five-week online courses in Leadership, Finance, and Revenue.

The program, donated by the world-renowned EHL Hospitality Business School, is recognized as the best hospitality management university globally, with campuses in Switzerland and Singapore. After receiving over 30 eligible entries, the scholarships were awarded to Thunchanok Kusolvititkul from Amanpuri, Kris Atienza from The Naka Island, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Phuket, and Parichart Patchoo from Andara Resort & Villas, who will take courses in Leadership, Finance, and Revenue, respectively.

The Phuket Hotels Association’s scholarships focus on education, one of its four strategic pillars, and aim to ease the talent crunch in the post-pandemic era. The program is critical for hotels and resorts in Phuket to have well-trained and qualified associates who can uphold the highest standards of professionalism and drive the industry forward. These scholarships will equip the recipients with specialist knowledge, new skills, and a deeper understanding of the hotel industry, thereby elevating Phuket’s entire hospitality sector.

Bjorn Courage, President of the Phuket Hotels Association, comments, “We are delighted to sponsor Khun Thunchanok, Khun Kris, and Khun Parichart to continue their development with EHL Hospitality Business School. Our collaboration with EHL is a key part of upskilling local talent and achieving our mission to enhance the long-term career prospects of our hospitality professionals.”

EHL was founded in 1893 as the world’s first hotel management school and has become an international education group with around 4,000 students, 30,000 alumni, and a wide range of educational programs, including professional short courses and executive education. Its unique pedagogical approach based on Swiss experiential learning and its pioneer spirit inspire many institutions, governments, and businesses worldwide, which use EHL’s consultancy services to raise their standards of excellence.

These three scholarships are the latest examples of how the Phuket Hotels Association is promoting investment in the education and training of local people. It recently secured scholarships for 48 young adults at vocational institutions and universities across Phuket and Bangkok, including alliances with Cornell University’s General Managers program and Dusit Thani College, Bangkok, to enhance their opportunities for career progression through progressive learning.

Overall, the Phuket Hotels Association’s efforts to empower and upskill local hospitality professionals have been well-received and continue to demonstrate their commitment to the industry’s growth and development.
