Experience Thailand Firsthand By Motorbike

If you love adventure and the open road, there’s no better place to marry the two than Thailand. With breath-taking scenery and favorable exchange rates, Thailand’s international tourism spiked to an all-time high of 35 million visitors in 2017. The country exudes both adventure and hospitality, boasting unforgettable landscapes and smiling faces across the entire country. To truly appreciate the amazing landscapes and warming hospitality the “Land of Smiles” has on offer, a motorbike trip from South to North will give you an immersive experience in one of Southeast Asia’s most inviting cultures.

North From Bangkok

Upon arrival in Bangkok, rent a motorbike from a reputable shop. After taking time to tour this unique city, begin your road trip by heading north to Ayuttayah, the first capital of Siam. This ancient city is now Ayuttayah Historical Park, a UNESCO heritage site (one of five in the country) and home to many temples and Buddhist religious sites. The temple complex is massive, and can be toured entirely on your bike.

Phitsanulok And The Psychedelic Temple

Leaving Ayuttayah, you will continue north on Route 11 for the city of Phitsanulok. Nearly a five-hour journey by bike, relax while you take in the hills and open fields surrounding you as you enter lower-northern Thailand. Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in the country, and the capital of the Phitsanulok Province. Upon resting here for the night, head east to Khao Kho and the magical Wat Pha Sorn Kaew the following morning. Ride out early the following for sunrise views of the most insane temple you’ve ever witnessed! Erected in 2004, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew is one of Thailand’s newer temples, but don’t let that deter you. Made of beautiful marble and over five million fragments of mosaic, five towering Buddhas sit atop this psychedelic mountain retreat. The drive through the hills is incredible fun, and the temple will undoubtedly be a highlight of your travels.

Entering Northern Thailand

Venturing farther north, you will reach the wonderful city of Chiang Mai. A vibrant city, without the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, Chiang Mai is a tourist favorite. It also serves as a fantastic headquarters for the grand finale of your motorbike trip. From here you can reach the can’t-miss cities of Pai and Chiang Rai. Many regard the road to Pai as the premiere drive in all of Thailand. Tourists flock to this “hippie town” to relax in the northern hills. Jaw-dropping hikes and good-times with fellow travellers await you. The oldest city in the north, Chiang Rai is the perfect stop for cultural enthusiasts. Hosts of traditional cuisines and activities are on offer. Highlights include the White Temple, the Blue Temple, and the Golden Triangle: the intersection of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.

Whether a lover of culture, nature, or food, Thailand has entertainment for all appetites. With a huge variety of landscapes and cuisine, friendly people, and a dependable road system, Thailand is the perfect place to plan your next motorbike expedition.
