Focus on health with the sea at your doorstep: the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa on Tenerife

More than 40 years have passed since the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa welcomed its first guests. Karl and Käthe Rolle, confectionery manufacturers from Saxony, came to Tenerife for the first time in 1965: At that time the island was still largely untouched, the mild climate and the diverse landscape seemed almost paradisiacal to them. But the fact that they would still be on the island so many years later – and run a successful hotel – they could not have dreamed of that at that time.

A new concept for the future

Over time, OCÉANO has become an insider tip for a sustainable holiday in Tenerife and has convinced guests with its holistic approach to health. Karl Matthias Rolle, the third generation of the family, has managed the hotel and developed the sustainable health concept: it incorporates the power of the ocean as well as treatments according to F.X. Mayr along with spa treatments. After a long time of investing a lot of energy into the continuous conceptual development of the OCÉANO in addition to smaller renovations, this year saw major construction changes. The unique ambience was preserved, while the architecture was adapted to the times and the special features of the OCÉANO.

For more than half a year now, the hotel has been undergoing renovation, which involves not only structural changes but also alterations to the spa and sports facilities. “We have now also implemented our modern, holistic concept structurally with the redesign of the hotel,” is how Karl Matthias Rolle explains the reasons for the comprehensive renovation.

Yoga with a sea view

In addition to a new façade influenced by the waves of the sea, the OCÉANO now also features the Ocean 11 rooftop lounge, from which guests can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the sea. On the roof terrace, there is also one of the two new yoga spaces with sea views, including sun and wind protection. In the garden, the heart of the OCÉANO, the new saltwater infinity pool invites you to relax. The Center of Healthy Motion (COHM), on the other hand, has a fitness area, yoga studio and conference room for active guests.

Sustainability as a central theme

Sustainability has always played a key role at the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa – and also runs like a continuous thread through the redesign. The change in the facade appearance was combined with an additional layer of insulation, natural and environmentally friendly building materials were used and energy-saving technology was also used for the fittings. Many changes can be experienced directly by guests; for example, the new water dispensers, with which the hotel will in future do without the use of plastic bottles altogether. Each guest will receive a reusable bottle during their stay, which can be refilled at any time free of charge at these refill stations. Although the food for OCÉANO’s fresh and light cuisine has always been predominantly sourced locally, only wines from local winegrowers are now offered.

With all these changes, Karl Matthias Rolle and his wife Magda Corominas Roig have always placed particular importance on continuing to further develop the OCÉANO’s popular offerings. With the new yoga spaces and the Center of Healthy Motion, they have certainly succeeded and the new OCÉANO combines the proven with the innovative in an exciting way.

Planting trees with every booking

The OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa is launching another sustainable project just in time for its new opening on October 19th, 2019: as a partner of the Bergwaldprojekt e.V., one tree is planted per guest who books a stay via their website. The Bergwaldprojekt Association has set itself the goal of protecting, preserving and caring for the forest and works together with volunteers in forests, wetlands and open grassland habitats throughout Germany. Even though the Rolle family has been living on Tenerife for many years, they still feel connected to their homeland.
