Huawei Collaborates with Leading Partners in Thailand to Empower ‘Smart Bangkok’ through Innovation, Connectivity, and Technology Applications for a Safe and Seamless Urban Lifestyle

In the digital era, technology is changing people’s lives, working processes, and the way we connect. Many sectors are shifting their focus to ‘Smart City’ concepts, including Huawei – one of the giants of the technology industry that is spearheading digital transformation in Thailand.

Recently, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. formed a strategic collaboration with government agencies, led by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as well as the private sector from over 160 organizations, to join forces in shaping the future of ‘Bangkok, a Livable City’ for all. This collaboration presents a momentous opportunity to bring all parties together to discuss and share their visions, outlooks, and ideas to determine how to transform Bangkok into a real ‘Smart City’.

Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, emphasized the importance of sustainable urban planning: “The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has partnered with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and various sectors to release measures that optimize environmental management systems, including control measures for various sectors such as trade, industry, energy consumption, construction, and architecture, to create healthy lifestyles that will lead to everyone’s sustainable happiness in the future.”

Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, underlined the importance of the ‘Co-Creation City’ concept that aims to drive Bangkok to become a ‘Smart City’: “This concept will increase the efficiency of city governance because residents will have values and a sense of ownership and inclusivity that will directly translate into the city’s urban development. Digital technologies will enable ‘Open Bangkok’ transparent policies that will provide citizens with open online space where they can gain access to government policies and have their voices heard. In addition, data analysis will help increase efficiency in city management. More importantly, Bangkok must be positioned as a livable city to attract skilled personnel from around the world, especially digital talents.”

Dr. Chawapol Jariyawiroj, President of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., shared Huawei’s outlook on this collaboration: “We aim to build a ‘Smart Bangkok’ by deploying advanced urban safety technologies to ensure that all residents will have access to improved wellbeing through our innovative Smart System and Smart Security System. Huawei has already introduced the latest in AI innovations into various smart devices, including CCTV cameras installed throughout the city. These smart CCTV cameras work 24/7 and are designed to help control traffic, cut street crime, provide greater safety throughout the city, and make people’s lives easier through real-time data transmission and storage via cloud computing, which can be used for further applications with various advanced systems in Bangkok.

Dr. Chawapol also shared how collaborative efforts from all sectors will sustainably empower Bangkok to be a Smart City throughout the 21st century: “Huawei – the world’s leading ICT product and solutions provider – is committed to its mission to ‘Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand’ and will deploy its latest ICT solutions to facilitate Bangkok City governance and efficiently elevate citizen life in order to help steer Bangkok towards being a future ‘Smart City’ in every area. These solutions include the following intelligent technologies:

1) IoT (Internet of Things), which includes automated interconnection between smart devices to build comprehensive intelligent security systems in Bangkok.

2) Internet connectivity through 5G Fiber that provides faster, smoother connections with gigabit-per-second speeds, the latency of which is 20 times lower than 4G connectivity, thereby making data transmission between devices faster than ever.

3) Intelligent Cloud-Based Platforms that store mass amounts of city data via cloud computing. This platform enables access to technologies and data connections to build an entire city command center – essentially acting as the city’s ‘brain’. This connection system will empower ‘Ubiquitous Connectivity’ – the always-on connection.”

Huawei believes that these three key technologies will empower Bangkok to become the city of the future with city-wide intelligence where everyone will benefit from seamless urban innovation to build a sustainable ‘Smart Bangkok’.
