Huawei Collaborates with the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, to Support 5G Telemedicine Equipment for Debaratana Vejjanukula Hospital Commemorating Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirinthorn’s 60th Birthday Anniversary

The Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, has announced the implementation of the telemedicine project with Debaratana Vejjanukula Hospital Commemorating Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirinthorn’s 60th Birthday Anniversary in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province. The project was supported by Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Advance Info Service Public Company Limited.

Professor (Special Expertise) Dr. Bannakit Lojanapiwat, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, said about this cooperation: “I had the opportunity to visit Debaratana Vejjanukula Hospital Commemorating Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirinthorn’s 60th Birthday Anniversary in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai, and discovered that it is in a remote area where people face great hardship just by travelling to receive medical treatment. Doctors stationed at the hospital must regularly care for patients suffering from complex diseases and complications. It is difficult for the local doctors to consult the patients’ cases with a medical specialist stationed in Chiang Mai province after they have been discharged from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital.”

Therefore, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, coordinated with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to request support for the Idea Hub Smart Board and 5G CPE signal distribution equipment for the Debaratana Vejjanukula Hospital, as well as with Advance Info Service Public Company Limited to expand 5G coverage to include the hospital area, in order to support a telemedicine project that would allow people to consult with a specialized doctor at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital without having to travel to the city’s center. The Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, is fully prepared to support 5G technology by improving its new internal systems, electric medical records (i-viewer), and developing the Suan Dok Line Application to be a digital platform that connects with telemedicine platforms. The two projects are being developed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. Within the scope of these projects, telemedicine will be expanded to cover an additional 19 hospitals in Chiang Mai Province, providing public health services using technology and video conference communications to exchange useful information for diagnoses, treatment, and disease prevention without the limitations of time or place. It will improve access to treatment, particularly for those living in remote areas, because they will no longer have to travel to have consultations and will have access to medical services where doctors can advise, diagnose, and treat them.

The Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, expressed their thanks to Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., who is their official strategic partner, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project on March 22, 2022, with the goal of utilizing 5G technology to promote the vision of developing a genuinely smart university in accordance with the Faculty of Medicine’s digital hospital and Telemedicine strategies. They also thanked Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited for delivering AIS 5G networks and technologies that span the entire country, and for helping the initiative improve the quality of life and health of people in remote areas.
