OneSiam, the global destination combining 3 world-class shopping destinations, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery has joined forces with Air Asia, supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Chengdu Office, has launched the exciting campaign ‘Air Asia x OneSiam present “Thailand Shopping Festival”’ to drive exponentially more Chinese tourists to visit Thailand. As OneSiam has been the point of origin of all tourist attractions and the capital of shopping destination that brings delightful shopping and entertainment experiences to tourists, it will continue to welcome and excite Chinese tourists throughout the New Year festivities and even into Chinese New Year celebration in 2019. This objective is aligned with TAT’s forecast which should see an enormous number of incoming Chinese tourists throughout the 2019 – an astounding increase by 15%, compared to this year.
Mr.Charun Chuennaitom, Director of the TAT Chengdu Office, stated “The Chinese remains to be the largest group of tourists visiting Thailand. In fact, according to research data of TAT Intelligence Center, between January and August 2018, there is an estimate of 25.8 million tourists, which grew by 10%, compared to the same period the previous year. Out of 25.8 million, 7.7 million are Chinese tourists which grew by 16.5%, when compared to the figures in 2017.
He also added, “According to the statistics, it has found that during the months of July and August, there is a noticeable drop in the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand, by -0.87% and -11.7% respectively. All attention is drawn to the fourth quarter as it is the high season, large groups of Chinese tourists are expected to visit Thailand – a shift towards a positive outcome. Regardless, both state and private sectors will continuously work together to establish confidence and create incentives to draw incoming groups of tourists from China.”

“Each day there is an estimate of 150,000 – 200,000 shoppers in Siam Paragon, 120,000 – 150,000 in Siam Center and Siam Discover, separately. The ratio of Thai visitors to Chinese visitors can be seen as 60 to 40. Among the top 5 tourist groups that constantly visit OneSiam are from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore – along with other nationalities, but the Chinese still remain as the majority group.”
