With the stylish theme ‘Manhattan Flair’, The St. Regis Bangkok Charity Gala 2018 was held on Friday 18th May. This annual event has become a social calendar highlight of the year in Bangkok, attracting VIPs, celebrities and valued guests, from far and wide, for a different worthy cause each year. The nominated charities are chosen each year by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Every year, since inception in 2013, The St. Regis Bangkok Charity Ball has gathered momentum, both in significance and in popularity. From the previous years, this annual event has collectively raised over THB 40million, for the various charities, selected by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. From this year’s event in May 2018, The St. Regis Bangkok hopes to be able to present the largest charitable donation, collected so far, for the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation for the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
The St. Regis Charity Gala 2018 celebrated with world-class entertainment and culinary excellence. Guests were transported back in time, to New York City of the 1940s and 1950s era, transforming the Astor Ballroom into a scene with pure Manhattan Flair. Immersed in the theme, the entire evening was presented in theatrical proportions, with a talented jazz trio, setting the vibrant mood. Khun Daran Zeththinich Chanavarasutthisiri, from The Face Season 3, performed exciting New York Cabaret. Guests were blown away by the acclaimed musical genius of Neung Jakkawal, appearing with his big band and accompanied by the singers Khun Viyada and Khun Kittinan. There was a spectacular Broadway rendition of ‘New York New York (It’s a wonderful town)’, while the grand finale featured the wonderful live sounds of renowned Australian singer-songwriter Mahalia Barnes.
This year’s epicurean delights were some of The St. Regis’ finest. None more befitting of the occasion’s Big Apple theme, all the way from New York himself, was Mark Arnao, Executive Chef of The St. Regis New York. Richard Sawyer, Director of Culinary at The St. Regis Bangkok also prepared legendary themed cuisine, together with members of his talented team, including Chef Lak Preeprem, and Executive Pastry Chef Thitiphong Suanborae. The evening’s nostalgia cocktails were conjured up by The St. Regis Bangkok’s Beverage Manager and expert mixologist, Alessandro Stringardi.
With the lots receiving generous bids from guests, and buyout table, proceeds raised more 7 million baht from this annual event, are being donated to the charity selected by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, namely the Foundation for the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
After the formal close of the ballroom event on level 14, guests were invited to continue celebrations at the elegant wine bar and whisky lounge, on the hotel’s level 12, at Decanter.
The St. Regis Bangkok extends sincerest gratitude to the generosity of all parties involved in the proceedings, including guests, partners and sponsors, without whom the annual event would not be possible. The St. Regis Bangkok, together with Minor International, wish for the event to continue to grow from strength to strength, allowing them the opportunity to keep giving back to the local community. The sum of proceeds raised will be released at a later date.
