RISC by MQDC gives New Year’s gift to Bangkok of ‘City Air Purifier’ to protect people’s lungs from toxic dust and PM2.5 pollution

Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC) by Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC) presents a New Year gift to Bangkok’s people – a new ‘City Air Purifier’. The device will use 6 electrostatic air filters to remove PM2.5 dust from up to 9,000 cubic meters of air/hour at its location in the heart of Bangkok, the skywalk at Pathum Wan intersection

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Chief Advisor to the Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC) by Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), presented a New Year’s gift to Bangkok’s people with the installation of the new ‘City Air Purifier’, reflecting RISC’s ‘For All Well-Being’ principle to provide good quality of life for residents. The device combines 4 electrostatic filters to purify up to 5,000 cubic meters of air each hour. It will also monitor PM2.5 dust level at its initial location in Pathum Wan between Siam Discovery and Siam Center until the end of 2019. The air purifier will then relocate to the skywalk at the Pathum Wan intersection and incorporate 2 additional electrostatic filters. The 6 filters will together purify up to 9,000 cubic meters of air each hour from January to March 2020.

The ‘City Air Purifier’ uses electrostatic precipitation technology. The device draws in air and gives dust particles a negative electrical charge. A positively charged plate then captures the dust. The filters can be removed, washed, and reused. The air purifier can filter out dust including PM2.5 from up to 9,000 cubic meters of air each hour.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto said: “RISC was born from a commitment to sustainable real estate development, applying research and development to develop innovations in buildings and quality of life. Because we now encounter air quality problems, especially outdoors with PM2.5 dust that harms people’s health, RISC has an idea to improve air quality at the city level. The prototype ‘City Air Purifier’ uses electrostatic technology in 6 air filters. RISC believes this is a highly effective technology for purifying the air and helping solve increasingly severe air pollution problems. The air purifier responds to environmental and health issues, letting city people live their everyday life outdoors as normal. The device is a gift to Bangkok people to welcome the upcoming New Year, 2020. It also reinforces the ‘For All Well-Being’ strategy of MQDC and RISC to create lasting happiness for all beings on earth – not only the residents of MQDC projects, but all people.”

The ‘City Air Purifier’ not only helps purify air but also provides RISC with data on its surroundings. The information will be applied to research and develop further knowledge for effective action in the future. The electrostatic filters may change in layout during January to March 2020 according to the research data collected.
