THAI Flies Stranded Thais Home from Italy

Sqn. Ldr. Anirute Sangrit, Vice President, Flight Operations Department, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), and Head of THAI Operations Control Center (TOCC), said that THAI cooperated with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok, and the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome to operate chartered flights to fly stranded Thais and Italians home on 25 May 2020.

Thirty seven stranded Thais who registered with the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome flew on flight TG8083 from Rome at 15.45 hours (local time) on 25 May 2020 to Bangkok at 07.35 hours on 26 May 2020 in accordance with the restriction by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs allowing up to 50 people onboard. Previously, THAI flew 158 stranded Italians in Thailand on flight TG8082 from Bangkok at 08.00 hours on 25 May 2020 to Rome at 14.30 hours (local time). At Fiumicino International Airport, passengers were accommodated by staff from THAI and organizations concerned.

In order to reduce the risk of transmission between cabin crew and passengers, physical distancing procedures were applied at every service area: check-in, passenger boarding, seat arrangement, inflight meals served in disposable boxes to avoid physical contact, disembarkation, passengers’ temperature were taken after two meal services, and hand sanitizer gel was offered to passengers. The cabin crew were required to wear protective suits, medical masks, and gloves while providing services and observed passengers with possible symptoms.

THAI is always prepared to operate special flights to fly Thais home during this difficult time.
