Museflower Retreat & Spa Chiang Rai recently celebrated its Annual Community Giving event with a day of donations to a local hill tribe school in Baan Huai Luek Village near the Lao border. After a Holiday Giving Drive collecting clothes and financial gifts from guests and staff, this event has become an annual outing and day of fun for Museflower Retreat’s staff to connect with their local communities.
After a 2.5 hour drive from Chiang Rai to Baan Huai Luek Village, ten of Museflower Retreat’s staff including the assistant manager, admin supervisor, housekeeping supervisor, executive chef, and admin coordinator arrived at the village before noon. This village has a total population of 200 people. The village school has 216 children with 11 teachers, and runs from nursery to secondary school. Most of the villagers are Hmong hill tribe people and Laotian immigrants who became Thai citizens.
Since most donations to hill tribes tend to focus on the villages located in the mountains, this year Museflower Retreat’s staff decided to support a village in a less popular location. They chose Baan Huai Luek village school, situated away from mountains on a river near the border, an area that tends to get less attention from donations.
Upon arrival at the school, the Museflower Retreat team were greeted with a warm welcome from the teachers, children and villagers, and were given a talk about the village from the teachers.
The donations included clothing from Museflower’s guests and staff, toys, snacks, face towels, bags, and sports equipment such as sepak takraw balls, footballs, basketballs and volleyballs. The Museflower staff were also able to raise a total of THB 6,400 donated by friends and families which was used to purchase the sporting goods.
Afterwards, the group went to the outdoor playground where the teachers and Museflower staff gave speeches and took photos. It was a rewarding day of forming new friendships, new connections, and fun for all.
