On 9 July 2019, Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort hosted a ‘Beach Cleanup’ of Klong Muang Beach, invited students from the Klong Muang School participating in a selection of activities geared towards improving their knowledge and understanding of conservation.
The event began with an opening ceremony, which honoured Mr. Sraththa Thongkhom, District Chief of Krabi Province, and Mr. Sukhay Chanaon from the Nong Thale Subdistrict Administration Organisation, both of whom opened the event. This was followed by several beachside activities in which children were encouraged to use their creativity and ingenuity to tackle the issue of waste on the area’s beaches, such as using trash for alternative purposes and creating art out of unexpected materials.
In addition to instilling knowledge, the event was also an opportunity for children in the community to enjoy a fun day at Sofitel’s spacious hotel grounds. After participating in the morning’s activities, the children were treated to lunch at Maya Restaurant, followed by a fun-filled swim in the largest lagoon-style swimming pool in the country. To conclude the event, all the students enjoyed performances held at the lush resort garden in the evening.
