Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., in partnership with the Collaborative Project on Children and Youth Development in rural areas under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, has achieved another successful milestone for its ‘Digital Bus’ initiative by kicking off a new project at Cognis Thai Border Patrol Police School in Sakon Nakhon province as part of its mission to address digital skill gaps in Thailand. The program targets to train 2,000 personnel across 6 provinces in 2024.
The Digital Bus project marks a strategic collaboration between Huawei Thailand and Cognis Thai Border Patrol Police School in Sakon Nakhon, a school catering to students from 9 remote villages consisting of 262 students from kindergarten 1 to grade 6. Through a strategic collaboration with the project, the Digital Bus curriculum was adapted to focus on economic philosophy and the utilization of technology to enhance social development knowledge and environmental conservation. This initiative underlines Huawei’s commitment towards bridging the digital divide in Thailand and empowering digital talents, particularly among youths in remote areas.
Since 2022, Huawei has continuously collaborated with various schools in Thailand to drive forward the Digital Bus initiative to equip younger generations in remote areas with innovation and technology that can in turn be applied to their academics. These subjects include the sciences, innovation, and culture, all of which can be applied in daily life. Digital inequality still exists in many countries worldwide, including in remote areas in Thailand due to lower rates of technology expansion compared to urban areas. This creates gaps in accessing and utilizing digital technology and knowledge.
In addition, Huawei aims to train 2,000 students and personnel in Thailand through the Digital Bus project this year, covering 6 provinces, including Nakhon Phanom, Krabi, Kanchanaburi, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Nayok, and Rayong. The projects in Nakhon Nayok and Rayong are an extension of the initiative that Huawei has undertaken with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 2023. This year, Huawei has elevated the Digital Bus curriculum to better suit schools in the area, focusing on raising awareness of applying technology in agriculture, improving agricultural productivity in households, and providing knowledge on cyber threats to strengthen online security for youths.
Dr. Apisit Phuengphorn, Principal of Cognis Thai Border Patrol Police School, provided his view on the Digital Bus project: “On behalf of our organization, I would like to express my gratitude to Huawei for supporting Thai youths and personnel by continuously providing them with digital knowledge through the Digital Bus project. This project also offers opportunities for students in kindergarten 1 to 3 to participate in recreational activities as well as enables us to provide nourishing meals for students, enhance our school landscape, and initiate many more activities. In conclusion, the Digital Bus project is not only an inspiring initiative, but also creates opportunities for children in remote areas of Thailand and helps nurture their dreams.”
Over the past 2 years, Huawei’s Digital Bus project has provided digital knowledge to students from upper elementary school to junior high school levels, as well as to over 4,500 provincial commercial officers, volunteer doctors, and local workers covering 14 provinces, including Sing Buri, Songkhla, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Nakhon
Ratchasima, Phichit, Phayao, Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Rai, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, and Nakhon Nayok.
Huawei has continuously supported Thailand’s education and is enhancing the quality of life for youths in remote areas by delivering 24 ‘Ideahub’ Interactive Displays to Border Patrol Police Schools and local healthcare centers (Suksala) nationwide. Huawei has also helped provide students and schools at the Border Patrol Police School in Ban Mong Kua, Tak province, with access to electricity and digital classrooms through the installation of solar panels and Huawei Smart PV Solutions. The Digital Bus project is part of Huawei’s mission to ‘Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand’, which aims to drive Thailand to become a digital hub of ASEAN and to support digital equality through Huawei’s ‘Lead Everyone Forward, Leave No One Behind’ initiative.
