Club Med Musandam: Oman’s New Luxury Gem

Club Med - logoThe Sultanate of Oman is set to redefine its hospitality landscape with the groundbreaking Club Med Musandam project, marking the first Club Med Resort in the Gulf States. Officially signed on May 2nd, 2024, in Muscat, this landmark event was attended by distinguished figures, including His Excellency Mr. Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, and Mr. Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med.

Henri Giscard d’Estaing remarked, “The history and success of Club Med lie in its pioneering approach, significantly contributing to regional development. The Club Med Musandam project is a key milestone as our first presence in the Gulf States.”

A Collaborative Vision for Sustainable Growth

This ambitious project results from a strategic partnership between Club Med, Royal Court Affairs, and the Omran Group. The resort aligns with Oman Vision 2040, aiming to attract 11 million tourists and bolster international tourism inflow. His Excellency Mr Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi highlighted, “This collaboration with Club Med is crucial to achieving our tourism objectives and boosting Oman’s global appeal.”

Club Med, renowned for its all-inclusive sun and snow holidays since 1950, continues to expand its footprint in the GCC countries through its partnership with dnata Travel Group. It caters to both leisure and corporate (MICE) travellers.

Economic and Employment Impact

The Club Med Musandam project promises significant economic benefits, generating over 400 direct and 800 indirect jobs. Additionally, approximately 1,000 employees will be engaged during the construction phase, substantially boosting the local job market. Dr Hashil Al Mahrouqi, CEO of Omran Group, stated, “Our mission is to showcase Oman’s beauty and hospitality to the world. Club Med Musandam will significantly contribute to this vision.”

Supported by Oman debt funders and equity partners, the $100 million investment in Club Med Musandam will commence in early 2026, with the resort expected to open by 2028.

Commitment to Sustainability

Club Med is dedicated to sustainability, aiming to eco-certify the construction of all new resorts with BREEAM standards or local equivalents. The Musandam resort targets a “very good” rating. Furthermore, Club Med’s operations will adhere to Green Globe standards, focusing on sustainable management, economic and social contributions, cultural heritage, and environmental stewardship. Initiatives like the “Bye Bye Plastics” movement and food waste reduction by 2030 exemplify Club Med’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

The Norway of Arabia: An Unparalleled Location

Club Med Musandam’s strategic location on the Musandam Peninsula, often called the “Norway of Arabia,” offers a unique blend of geography, culture, and history. The jagged coastline, striking fjords, and expansive Hajar Mountains create breathtaking panoramas. Khasab, the central city, is known for its natural beauty and authentic Bedouin culture, making it an ideal destination for travellers.

Easily accessible, the resort is a mere five-minute boat ride from Khasab City and two and a half hours from Dubai International Airport, appealing to local and international visitors.

A Premium and Inclusive Experience

Club Med Musandam will feature 300 rooms in an Exclusive Collection, offering luxurious yet authentic experiences inspired by Omani culture. The resort will provide a comprehensive vacation package, including world-class kids’ clubs, diverse land and water activities, and wellness retreats. Guests can enjoy tennis, paddle tennis, beach tennis, archery, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, and more.

For wellness enthusiasts, the resort offers a spa, fitness centre, yoga school, and an adult-only Zen pool and bar, providing the perfect environment for relaxation and rejuvenation.

A Hub for Culinary and Artistic Delights

The resort centre will offer a shopping experience alongside gourmet dining options, with restaurants, bars, and a wine corner. Throughout the day and evening, guests can enjoy entertainment, artistic performances, and live music. In addition to the idyllic beach setting, visitors can explore Oman’s rocky landscapes and stunning fjords.
