Rise, Shine and ‘Get SOM Breakfast’ at Praça – The Standard, Hua Hin’s Winsome Dining Destination

Praça, everyone’s favorite Thai Izakaya at The Standard, Hua Hin, promises to make Saturday mornings all the more enjoyable with the launch of a new, seaside breakfast service. For a taste of things to come, guests and community can ‘Get SOM Breakfast’ with a series of Saturday pop-ups hosted between November and March. Specially for the occasion, Praça’s chef Surawadee ‘Fern’ Nooprai will collaborate with Jutamas ‘SOM’ Theantae, chef-owner behind Hua Hin’s hotspot SOM’S TABLE serving scrumptious Carte Blanche menus to holidaying Bangkokians.

Chef SOM, whose food is as much about emotion as it is about taste, was given carte blanche when developing Praça’s breakfast menu. Guided by her instincts, the master of a holiday meal narrowed her ideas down to a concise menu that pulls from simple old recipes while adding a touch of flair. From joy to wistfulness to nostalgia, her inspired selection evokes every emotion under the sun and pairs wonderfully with crisp prosecco from Praça’s ample cellar.

The six dishes on the ‘Get SOM Breakfast’ menu are comfort food elevated by technique, but primal in appeal. From delicate slivers of SOM’s Bang Saphan king mackerel crudo and black cod “fish bites” to shrimp dumplings with parmesan cream topped with a soft-boiled egg and crab cake eggs Benedict, the first four items are a love letter to seafood. Not to be outshone, the turf dishes are just as scrumptious: cacio e pepe ramen with fried Had Yai pork belly vies for attention with West Bengal butter chicken masala with saffron rice.

Beachside ‘Get SOM Breakfast’ will be served from 7:00 am to 10:30 am on the following Saturdays:

  • November 18, 2023
  • January 20, 2024
  • February 17, 2024
  • March 16, 2024

The breakfast package includes à la carte dishes selected by Chef SOM and unlimited access to an Asian buffet menu curated by Chef Fern featuring a variety of Thai dishes, including fried rice, soups, noodles, desserts, fresh fruits, and beverages. Prices vary depending on whether you are an in-house guest with breakfast included or not, starting at THB 800 per person for food only. Additionally, bottles of Prosecco will be available for an extra THB 1,000 per bottle. Early bird discounts are offered for bookings made more than 7 days in advance.

“SOM’S TABLE serves what is known as food for the soul, and I wanted to recreate this feeling at Praça,” said Chef SOM. “The challenge was adapting my recipes from lunch to breakfast service, which gave me an excuse to experiment and color outside the lines. I hope that both The Standard loyalists and SOM’s Table regulars like what they see on their plates come November.”

During the day, the laid-back Thai izakaya serves family-style Thai dishes, including everyday street favorites, while the bar is a place to savor good cocktails and good conversation in equal measure.  Praça’s eclectic décor, dreamy views and The Standard’s edgy cultural programing make it a magnet for the weekend crowd, who now have a memorable breakfast to look forward to as well.
