ViMUT Hospital Launches Clinics for Office Health Threats

ViMUT Hospital Company Limited, a leading private hospital in the heart of Bangkok, continues to expand its commitment to delivering seamless medical services with the introduction of four specialized clinics specifically designed to address the prevalent diseases among the working-age population. These clinics include the Headache Clinic, Gerd and Constipation Clinic, Arrhythmia Clinic, and Nose and Sinus Clinic. In targeting the comprehensive healthcare needs of the working-age demographic, who bear the responsibilities and pressures of the economy, ViMUT Hospital addresses lifestyle imbalances and cumulative stresses that increase the risk of chronic diseases. Additionally, it aims to combat silent threats that may unexpectedly compromise health, potentially leading to severe conditions. ViMUT Hospital is confident that its four new clinics align with the needs of the younger generation, who prioritize self-care to prevent severe illness. The hospital commits to delivering international standard healthcare encompassing prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, with meticulous care provided by skilled specialists. It is dedicated to fostering a healthy lifestyle for individuals of all ages, striving towards a sustainable society that prioritizes optimum well-being for Thai citizens.

According to the National Statistical Office (NSO) of Thailand’s 2023 report, the country’s working-age population, which comprises individuals aged 15 and older, totals 58.92 million. Research conducted by the GFK Institute further reveals that Thais work an average of 50.9 hours per week, surpassing the global average of 40 to 44 hours. These extended work hours significantly increase the risk of developing common diseases among working-age individuals, as these risks are often associated with imbalanced lifestyles. Factors contributing to these health concerns include insufficient rest, inadequate physical exercise, improper diet, stress, exposure to pollution, and prolonged periods of sedentary screen time.

Dr.Somboon Tosborvorn, ViMUT Hospital Director said, ViMUT Hospital recognizes the significant concern regarding health issues across different age groups and genders, especially among the working-age population. This demographic poses a challenge for many countries globally. Often, individuals in this group prioritize their responsibilities, neglecting their own health. As a result, they may overlook warning signs and, unknowingly, suffer from severe illnesses. Committed to offering contemporary healthcare services that align with current health trends, ViMUT Hospital ensures care that caters to individuals of all ages. To enhance our ability to address common diseases and tackle silent threats, ViMUT Hospital has opened four specialized clinics staffed by expert physicians. During the launch event of the four specialized clinics, esteemed medical experts shared valuable insights regarding the risk behaviors commonly associated with diseases prevalent among the working-age population. They emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs from the body that should not be ignored, as early detection plays a crucial role in preventing the onset of severe illness.

Dr.Kittawit Rungjang, Neurologist ViMUT Hospital, said “According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence of headaches is alarmingly high at 40%. This means that out of the world’s population of approximately 7 billion people, around 3.1 billion suffer from headaches. Out of these numbers, approximately 1 billion people experience severe headaches, with 15% of them reporting their severity. These severe headaches can be caused by various factors such as inflammation, infection, brain tumors, or bleeding in the brain. If not immediately diagnosed and treated by a doctor, they can potentially lead to death or disability. It is important to note that while stress and lack of rest contribute to most headaches, there are still many other triggers. It is crucial not to overlook the warning signals that your body sends you. If you are dealing with chronic headaches or experiencing pain that you have never felt before, especially when it is unusually severe, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately. Additionally, if you experience symptoms such as numbness, weakness in the arms and legs, nausea, blurred vision, distorted face, or loss of consciousness, it is crucial to see a doctor as soon as possible. It is of utmost importance that you refrain from self-medicating and instead consult a medical professional.”

Dr.Kulthep  Rattanakovit, Gastroenterologist, Neurogastroenterologist and Motility ViMUT Hospital, remarks on the high prevalence of acid reflux disease among individuals in the working-age group. “This can be attributed to their busy lifestyles, irregular eating habits, inadequate chewing, and consumption of fried foods, soft drinks, alcohol, and tobacco. In Thailand, the younger generation is increasingly affected by GERD due to changing behaviors. It is essential to address symptoms associated with acid reflux disease, such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, indigestion, and abnormal bowel movements, through timely medical attention to prevent potentially life-threatening complications. Another prevalent issue among Thai individuals, particularly those aged between 20 and 40, is constipation, affecting 57% of this age group, with higher occurrence in females compared to males. Leading causes of constipation include dietary factors, inadequate water intake, surgery, accidents, and other illnesses. Stress also has a negative impact on bowel movements. It is concerning that many people consider constipation to be a normal condition and delay seeking treatment until it becomes chronic, significantly impacting their quality of life and posing potential life-threatening risks. However, both acid reflux disease and constipation can be mitigated through genuine lifestyle modifications. Treating these conditions not only alleviates symptoms but also prevents their recurrence.”

Dr.Sarunpong Pibalyart, Cardiologist ViMUT Hospital, highlighted the danger of arrhythmia from stress, stating, “Heart disease is prevalent in working-age individuals due to overworking, stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise. Arrhythmia disrupts the heart’s natural rhythm, affecting the synchronization of the upper heart chambers. It’s a silent threat, with 15-46% of patients showing no symptoms. Common warning signs include palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Immediate medical consultation is vital. Misconceptions about the severity of this condition exist, but it can lead to heart failure, fainting, and stroke. Maintaining heart health involves stress management, a balanced diet with protein, omega-3, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking, alcohol, and excessive caffeine.”

Asst.Prof.Dr.Kawinyarat Jitaroon, Otolaryngology Rhinology and Allergy ViMUT Hospital, explains the reasons why sinusitis is a common issue that affects many individuals intermittently. “Sinusitis can stem from various factors, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, allergies, air pollution, and immune disorders. Both acute and chronic sinusitis can occur, affecting both children and adults, particularly during humid weather like the rainy season. However, individuals in the working-age group face a higher risk due to behaviors that trigger nasal mucosa swelling, such as prolonged exposure to cold or dry weather and sudden temperature changes. Many working individuals spend extended periods in air-conditioned rooms and then experience rapid temperature fluctuations when going outside. Moreover, insufficient rest and exercise, especially when combined with a cold, can cause inflammation of the nasal passages and sinuses, resulting in delayed recovery, persistent symptoms, and the development of chronic sinusitis. Furthermore, individuals working in large cities with high levels of PM 2.5 pollutants can weaken the respiratory mucosa, making it more prone to inflammation and severe allergic reactions. This further increases the likelihood of sinusitis. If someone experiences facial pain, unusual smells from within the nose, throat mucus, or the presence of green mucus, it is advisable to seek consultation with a specialist doctor for a comprehensive examination and appropriate treatment.”

The specialists at ViMUT Hospital emphasized the value of annual health check-ups to identify potential health issues that may not exhibit obvious symptoms. They also highlighted the importance of making sustainable lifestyle changes for overall well-being. They provided four guidelines for maintaining good health: 1. Nutrition: It is recommended to consume nutritious foods from all five food groups while reducing the intake of high-fat, high-sugar, and excessively salty foods. 2. Emotional Well-being: Managing stress appropriately is crucial. When feeling exhausted, taking breaks and practicing deep breathing exercises for 2-3 minutes can promote relaxation and alleviate stress. 3. Exercise: To prevent obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, heart disease, and vascular diseases, it is advised to avoid prolonged sitting. Standing up and walking around every 30 minutes can be beneficial. Additionally, finding time to exercise before or after work is encouraged. 4. Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for recharging the body and mind, enabling effective daily performance and work management. Prioritizing sufficient sleep is crucial for maintaining optimal health.
