13th Clutter Sale for Charity (2019)

Shop Till You Drop for Charity

Here’s your chance to ‘tidy up your space’ and de-clutter at home!  Come sell or donate your pre-owned but still in good condition ‘clutter’ towards the upcoming Clutter Sale 2019!

By popular request, the much-awaited 13th edition of the Clutter Sale for Charity, organized annually by the NewsMakers, will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. Proceeds will benefit Chulalongkorn Hospital’s ‘Genetic Cancer Research Centre’ under the auspices of the Thai Red Cross.

The NewsMakers, a group of creative-thinking individuals in media, public relations and interior design, brought the idea of a new concept flea market for charity to Thailand that will feature new and slightly used items. Since its inception in 2006, the event has raised millions for charity, and has become a much-awaited fun, and some say, social event for both vendors and shoppers alike. The initial 40 tables have risen to 70, offering bargain hunters a rare chance to purchase nearly-new discarded treasures, or so-called “clutter”, donated by free-spending VIPs and celebrities as well as members of the expat and diplomatic community.

“What I enjoyed most was the shopping,” said Chitra Konantakiet, a regular vendor together with friends Chitramon Tejapaibul, Tipaporn Ajanant and Vee Marr.

Franza Chakrabandhu, another regular Clutter Sale vendor says. “I do so many shows each year but never a fair like the Clutter Sale, so meaningful and sanuuuuukkkkk!!

The NewsMakers comprise Thailand Tatler editor-in-chief Naphalai Areesorn; L’Officiel editor-in-chief MR Usnisa Sukhsvasti; media veterans Netra Ruthaiyanont and Cora Sukhyanga; public relations professionals Annabelle Daokaew and Somsri (Susie) Hansirisawasdi; landscape and interior architect ML Poomchai Chumbala, Naphaporn Burusratanaphan and Melanie Sukhyanga.

Past events have seen primarily unused or nearly-new good-quality second-hand items – brand-name goods, fashion accessories, jewelry, antiques and vintage clothes, small appliances, kitchenware, decorative items, sports equipment, novelty items and gadgets, even the occasional vehicle. Companies donated their overruns while fashion houses sold slightly-used catwalk outfits.

Also awaiting shoppers is a Lucky Draw for a chance to win air tickets, courtesy of Turkish Airlines, as well as other amazing prizes from five-star dinner vouchers and spa visits to wines, and personal care products, etc.  And last but not least there will be ‘the occasional vehicle’ on display and a surprise offer from Volvo Withayu GT Cars.  Tickets are priced at Bht50 each.
