3.6 million applicants use their privileges in “We Travel Together” project

Rooms have been reserved by 3.6 million people under the “We Travel Together” project.

Ms Traisulee Traisarakul, Deputy Government Spokesperson, said today that it was found that major cities are still very popular destinations. The most popular short-distance tourist attractions are in the eastern and western regions. Most eligible applicants prefer booking hotels by the sea for a night, while popular long-distance tourist destinations are in the South especially in Krabi where tourists mostly booked accommodation for at least two nights.

The application system, the price notification system and the room payment system are going smoothly. It is expected that today more people will gradually join the project and use their privileges to reserve more rooms. Since there is a long weekend next week, people will probably start traveling on Friday.

She has warned hotel operators against raising their prices because an agency will be inspecting the prices. Hotel operators who are found to have raised their prices will be disqualified from participating in the project immediately. The project is aimed at stimulating the tourism sector in order to distribute income to various areas and help the economy as a whole recover. She expressed her hope that the entrepreneurs will cooperate well with the government and not take advantage of the public.

Each applicant can reserve up to five rooms for five nights. The government will subsidize five million nights of hotel accommodation at 40 percent of normal room rates. Reservations must be made three days in advance. Eligible applicants can use their privileges until October 31.
