THAI Supports Thai Government to Fly Thais From Italy

Flt. Lt. Pratana Patanasiri, Vice President, Aviation Safety, Security & Standards, Thai Airways International Public Company (THAI), said that due to the announcement of Italy’s Government on national lockdown following the rapid rising death toll and confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The Thai Government, concerned of Thais in those areas, had assigned THAI to transport Thai students, AFS exchange students, and stranded tourists through flight TG945 Rome-Bangkok on 14 March 2020 which was the last THAI flight from Italy. THAI gained partnership from the Ministry of Foreign Affair, the Ministry of Public Health, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and the Royal Thai Navy in landing at U-Tapao International Airport, Rayong Province, Thailand on 15 March 2020 at 06.45 hours and transferring all passengers and cabin crews for a 14-day quarantine session at the Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi Province according to the measures of the Ministry of Public Health.

For their safety, THAI required cabin crews to wear protective suits, medical masks, and gloves while providing services onboard as well as to monitor passenger condition during the flights. The Company spray disinfectant and deep clean the aircraft after landing. Also, cabin crews will be required to isolate themselves for 14 days according to THAI’s COVID-19 preventive measures with safety of passengers and cabin crews as the highest priority.
