Agoda Tech Camp Day Attracts Record Number of Bangkok High Schools’ Tech Enthusiasts

Tech travel platform Agoda, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), today proudly hosted the second, and largest, installment of Agoda Tech Camp Day. With the aim of educating and inspiring the upcoming generation of tech talents in Bangkok, the day-long event offered a series of in-depth tech workshops designed to make learning fun and engaging for high school students.

This event marked a significant milestone in the tech education landscape, attracting over 1,000 students from nine BMA schools, making it one of the largest tech gatherings for high school students in Bangkok, to-date.

Prominent guests kicked off the days’ festivities this morning with an opening ceremony. The Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt; Agoda’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Damien Pfirsch, and Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Idan Zalzberg; each addressed students and attendees, inspiring them to embrace the future of technology, become a beacon for change, to stay curious and never stop learning.

The Governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, expressed the importance of investing in tech education among the youth, stating, “Agoda Tech Camp Day is a commendable initiative that bridges the gap between theory and practice. The future of Bangkok relies on the knowledge and skills of our youth, and workshops of this nature play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of tech experts.”

At the heart of the event were a series of three meticulously designed workshops, each with its independent curriculum, hosted by Agoda’s top Thai engineers. Participating students had the opportunity to choose up to two workshops that aligned with their interests, allowing them to delve into areas of web development (with React and Bootstrap), user interface (UI), user experience (UX) and artificial intelligence (AI), including ChatGPT, to study smarter.

The Camp seeks to help students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, equipping them with the technological skills needed for success in professional settings. The interactive nature of the workshops, which include group activities, presentations, and games serve the purpose of fostering a fun and engaging learning experience. In addition to the workshops, the Camp also featured two career talk sessions with prominent external figures, including content creator and gamecaster, Toffie is IT Support; Viabus CEO, Intouch Marsvongpragorn; young Silicon Valley Software Developer, Phumparin Mano, and Agoda’s top talents. Each of whom shared about their education and career journeys, with the hopes of inspiring students to pursue a career in the tech space.

Agoda’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Damien Pfirsch, expressed his delight in empowering the next generation of tech experts. “We truly believe that Bangkok can be the Silicon Valley of Asia, and its success will be driven by the talented and ambitious youth of Thailand. For Agoda, being able to play a part in helping to shape this future by sharing our team’s tech skills and expertise as well as encouraging students to be more curious and explore tech, is very rewarding,” he said.

Agoda Tech Camp Day undoubtedly leaves a mark on the tech education landscape in Thailand, fostering innovation and nurturing the tech leaders of tomorrow. This collaboration between Agoda and the BMA underscores the power of partnerships in driving progress and shaping the future of technology.

Tech Camp Day is part of an on-going social impact and sustainability partnership between Agoda and BMA. Recent projects include the Urban Tree Planting Initiative, Action Day PM 2.5 BKK, and the Community Based Tourism Support Initiative at Talad Noi.
