AirAsia is expanding its route network into India with the latest introduction of flights between Bangkok-Don Mueang and the historic city of Gaya in the state of Bihar, India.

Gaya is home to four holy sites in Buddhism including Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment, and the Mahabodhi temple that is a World Heritage Site.  Gaya is also mentioned in the great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The new route between Don Mueang and Gaya will commence in October 2022, with three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flights are available for booking now via the airasia Super App during a year-end promotion from as low as 3,590 THB only. Promo ends 11 September 2022.

Mr Santisuk Klongchaiya, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Thailand said: “With the COVID-19 pandemic easing, AirAsia has continued to launch connections between Thailand and India, especially to attract Indian travelers to help stimulate Thailand’s economy. These routes have been very well received and AirAsia Thailand currently flies direct to five Indian cities, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi and Bangalore. The opportunity is now present for the carrier to fly direct Don Mueang-Gaya starting this October 2022.

“Bodh Gaya is a top destination for Thai people, especially Thai Buddhists who wish to walk in the footsteps of the Lord Buddha for at least once in their lifetime. Our direct flight to Gaya offers a convenient way to visit where the Buddha was born, enlightened, performed his first sermon and reached nirvana. This latest route is sure to be favored by tours and groups but is also a wonderful experience for solo travelers,” Mr Santisuk said.

AirAsia is now offering the “Visit India for a Pilgrimage” promotion.
