Art Rotation Series Vol.7 at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok to feature “My Way” collection by Outsider Artists

Luxury boutique hotel 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok will end their highly successful rotating art showcase for this year with a unique exhibition and a series of workshops.

“O or art created by individuals with no formal training will be the focal point of the seventh edition of “Art Rotation” which celebrates local talent. As part of the CSR efforts, the hotel will support two foundations that use art to promote and encourage the creativity of individuals with the autism spectrum disorder. The exhibition is open to the public who are invited to come and support the work done by the two foundations.

The artists from the Na Kittikoon Foundation and the Autistic Thai Foundation will showcase their artworks which are unconventional, raw and personal. Most of these “outsider artists” don’t depict the world around them, but portray a world of their own and use art as an outlet to provide comfort and peace within themselves.

Founded in 2004, Na Kittikoon Foundation has been supported people with special needs using handicrafts, visual arts and music to not only enhance fine motor and problem-solving skills but to also give them confidence and dignity to express their creativity. A social enterprise business, Art Story functions under the Autistic Thai Foundation helps individuals with special needs gain their self-development with pride through the creation of exceptional art pieces.

The opening day of the exhibition will also feature a unique performance titled “Draw Me Raw” that is the first of its kind. Four well-known street artists – Kiatanan Iamchan (Line Censor), Praphassorn Butphrom (Earth), Phuraphol Sotaiyin (Sow), and Terdtanwa Kanama (Turn) – will pair off with four “outsider artists” from the two foundations. Together each team will produce one-of-a-kind works of art that will also be sold during the event.

Additionally, the hotel along with the foundations has also created a number of unique workshops that are open to everyone. The workshops on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 November will be led by Anon Lulitananda from the Na Kittikoon Foundation. A Masters in Painting from Silapakorn University, he has been teaching art to the special-needs children for over nine years instructing them how to use pastel colours, paint in acrylic or even sculpt clay. Participants will learn the same techniques he teaches at the foundation of how to break down complicated shapes and forms and to use their imagination and personality to improvise and create outstanding artwork.

Wacharapol Dorchana or Tiw will lead the workshop on Saturday, 7 December. A member of the Autistic Thai Foundation art programme since he was six, in his early years, Tiw was fond of drawing mostly “buildings” and especially the Baiyoke Tower. At his workshop titled “Draw Like Tiw”, this gifted artist will share tips on how to create a fantastic cityscape using only a ballpoint pen. The “Upcycle Plants” workshop on Sunday, 8 December, Phiengkarn Suwannapat or Kru Pink, an art instructor will teach participants to handcraft their own planters from recycled materials.

The “Art Rotation Series Vol. 7: The Outsider Artists” opens with a cocktail event on 13 November 2019, and will feature an interactive performance titled “Draw Me Raw: Street Artists X Outsider Artists”.

The artwork will be on display at the Baan Borneo Club, and Louie’s Tiffin Grill at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok from 14 November 2019 – 8 January 2020 and the exhibition is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The “Na Kittikoon Experience” workshops by the Na Kittikoon Foundation will be held on 23 & 24 November 2019. And the “Draw Like Tiw” and “Upcycle Plants” workshops by the Autistic Thai Foundation take place on 7 & 8 December 2019 respectively. All workshops are from 3-5 p.m.
