Leading global hotel chain, BWH Hotel Group, has announced its commitment to environmental and social responsibility with a new global sustainability initiative, “Because We Care”. The initiative focuses on three key pillars: Earth, People and Community (EPC), and comes as the hospitality industry recognizes the need to take a leading role in addressing global challenges.
Larry Cuculic, BWH Hotel Group’s President and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable travel and applauded the efforts of the chain’s hotels and resorts worldwide in embracing sustainable initiatives. Ron Pohl, President of International Operations and WorldHotels, echoed this sentiment, stating that sustainable tourism requires a collective effort from every hotel brand, owner and employee.
BWH Hotel Group has partnered with QIA Services in Great Britain, which assesses and accredits each of the chain’s hotels in the destination under its Responsible, Ethical, Sustainable Tourism (REST) accreditation scheme. Prestige Hotels & Resorts has joined the WorldHotels Collection portfolio of independent hotels and resorts in Canada and is committed to the GreenStep Sustainable Tourism program. The Best Western Plus Kamloops Hotel, also in Canada, is a Green Key-rated property and Biosphere committed entity. Meanwhile, in Germany, the Best Western Premier Hotel Victoria has garnered numerous awards for its environmental programs over the last 20 years.
Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo in Spain has recently achieved the Biosphere Sustainable Certified distinguishment. In contrast, the Best Western Plus Westlands in Kenya has implemented community-focused initiatives such as giving back to a local children’s home and participating in tree planting for Earth Day. The Caravelle Saigon in Vietnam, a member of the WorldHotels Elite Collection, has been awarded the “Earth Check” gold certificate and is the first and only property in Vietnam to achieve the certification.
BWH Hotel Group’s “Because We Care” initiative comes as the hospitality industry faces mounting pressure to address environmental and social concerns. With a presence in nearly 100 countries, the chain’s commitment to sustainability across its global portfolio is an essential step towards responsible tourism practices.
