Celebrate “International Jazz Day” at The Living Room with the Remarkable Sibel Köse Trio from Turkey

Join us at The Living Room on Tuesday April 30 as we celebrate “International Jazz Day” with the remarkable Sibel Köse Trio from Turkey.

In 2011, UNESCO officially designated April 30 as “International Jazz Day” in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. “International Jazz Day” is chaired and led by UNESCO Director General, Audrey Azoulay and legendary jazz pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock.

“International Jazz Day” brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts from all over the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future and impact; raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication.

At The Living Room, we will celebrate “International Jazz Day” with a special performance by the Sibel Köse Trio. The outstanding band is comprised of three of Turkey’s most prominent jazz musicians and educators; Sibel Köse on vocals, Kaan Bıyıkoğlu on piano, and Çağlayan Yıldızon bass. The talented trio is renowned for its rich repertoire of jazz standards, Bossa Nova and tunes from the “Great American Songbook”.

Vocalist, Sibel Köse is Turkey’s top female jazz vocalist. Since 1987, she has performed alongside jazz masters at international jazz workshops, concerts and festivals. She was awarded the first prize in the “International Competition of Jazz Vocalists” in Zamosc, Poland. Pianist Kaan Bıyıkoğlu has shared the stage with eminent jazz musicians at numerous festivals, concerts, radio and television broadcasts, and recorded albums in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Composer and bassist Çağlayan Yıldız graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory. He runs his own music studio in Turkey, works as the Music Director of 251 Jazz Club and regularly composes, performs, and produces jazz.
