Celebrating Songkran: Siam Paragon Unveils a Pop Art Extravaganza

Siam Paragon - logoBangkok’s premier lifestyle destination, Siam Paragon, in collaboration with KASIKORNBANK, is poised to redefine the traditional Thai New Year celebrations with its latest spectacle, the “Siam Paragon Ultrasonic Water Festival 2024, Songkran Lobster Wonderland by Philip Colbert.” This vibrant event, scheduled from April 9 to 16, 2024, at Parc Paragon, marks a monumental first as it brings the world-renowned London-based pop artist Philip Colbert’s exhibition to Thailand.

Colbert often hailed as the ‘Godson of Andy Warhol,’ is globally celebrated for his electrifying pop art that blends historical art motifs with contemporary cultural narratives. This exclusive showcase introduces his famed oversized playful Lobster character to a Thai audience. It integrates it with elements of the iconic Songkran festival, such as water pistols and traditional Thai motifs, creating a cross-cultural dialogue that is both engaging and visually spectacular.

Thanaporn Tantiyanon, Head of Business Unit at Siam Paragon, elaborated on the vision behind this groundbreaking collaboration, stating, “At Siam Paragon, we are dedicated to creating unparalleled experiences that resonate globally. This partnership with Philip Colbert is particularly thrilling; it reflects our commitment to blending art, culture, and community in innovative ways. We anticipate attracting over 200,000 visitors daily, who will immerse themselves in a cultural confluence of art and tradition.”

The event extends beyond visual art, featuring a concert series with over a hundred renowned artists, traditional Thai cultural showcases, including aromatic water crafting and Thai dessert demonstrations, and an exhibition of ancient Buddha images loaned by the National Museum Bangkok. These cultural immersions are designed to give visitors a holistic experience of Thai heritage and modern artistic expression.

Supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Ministry of Culture, and popular social platforms like JOOX and TikTok, this festival is not just an event but a beacon of Thai culture projected on an international canvas. It promises to be a vibrant celebration that blends the traditional with the contemporary, making it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists during the Thai New Year.

This innovative fusion at Siam Paragon’s Songkran Lobster Wonderland by Philip Colbert sets a new benchmark for cultural festivities. It reinforces Bangkok’s status as a dynamic global city at the forefront of artistic innovation.
