The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, known for its innovative cultural programming, is thrilled to present the Bangkok debut of renowned British artist Lucy Sparrow. In an exhibition titled “Add to Cart,” the hotel’s lobby, The Parlor, and Tease have been transformed into a vibrant street food market featuring a remarkable collection of felt-based creations. This unique showcase will run until June 30th, 2023, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the whimsical world of felt Thai delicacies.
Collaborating with Lucy Sparrow again, The Standard delves into the essence of traditional Thai flavours that evoke a sense of nostalgia, invoking cherished childhood memories associated with street food and its connection to carefree times. Journeying down memory lane, visitors will encounter an array of food carts brimming with iconic Thai street food staples, meticulously hand-stitched by Lucy Sparrow in her unmistakable style. From mouth-watering moo-ping (grilled BBQ pork) and delectable Isaan pork sausages to the irresistible kanom krok (coconut rice pancake) and a delightful cart overflowing with cotton candy and tropical fruits, every detail captures the spirit of Thai street food culture.
Lucy Sparrow spent months researching, creating, and installing this extraordinary project. Reflecting on her latest endeavour, Sparrow expressed gratitude for The Standard’s unwavering support throughout her career, reminiscing about their significant milestones. From providing the platform for her first US show, ‘8 till Late,’ in New York in 2017, to allowing her to showcase her felt artistry at Sparrow Mart in downtown Los Angeles in 2018, The Standard has been an integral part of her artistic journey. Thrilled to reunite with familiar faces, Sparrow eagerly anticipates witnessing her works in the remarkable setting of The Standard’s newly opened Bangkok hotel.
The ‘Add to Cart’ exhibition will remain open until June 30th, 2023, at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, located at Relay Lobby, The Parlor, and Tease. For further information about The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, please visit www.standardhotels.com.
