Huawei launches ‘Digital Bus’ project, Accelerating Digital Inclusivity and Elevating Thai Education Sector with Technology

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. launches the ‘Digital Bus’ project which aims to accelerate the digital inclusivity and elevate Thai education sector with technology, especially in the remote areas in Thailand.

Huawei kicks off this project at Singhapahu Prasanmit Aupatham School, Singburi Province, Thailand, which received a good cooperation from the educational institution and partners in Thailand. This project aims to equally enhance digital skills among Thai educational personnel in the remote areas by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and broad access to current technology. In addition, it will also support digital economy growth while Thailand is moving forward to become a sustainable ASEAN’s digital hub. In addition, Mr. Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), also joined the event to launch this project.

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recognizes the Thai government’s efforts to launch many policies to boost ICT development and digital economy. The ‘Thailand 4.0’ blueprint, the convergence of 5G, IoT, and Cloud will push the country’s digital economy to account for 30% of total GDP by 2030. By the end of 2021, Huawei has collaborated with partners in Thailand to deploy 20,000 5G stations, and the 5G users reached 4.2 million, which is 2.6 times larger than the sum of all other ASEAN countries.

However, the exciting journey towards a digital world is not always smooth. A major challenge is the gaps in digital skills and digital talent pool. At Huawei, we believe that digital skills and knowledge are not just the foundation for the digital economy and digital competitiveness. They also provide Thai people and students with greater career and development opportunities.

As a key enabler for digital transformation and continuous social value contributor, Huawei has launched several initiatives to increase digital skills for Thai people and students. Through Huawei ASEAN Academy, ICT Academy and Seeds for Future projects. Since 2019, Huawei has cultivated over 40,000 local digital talents. The ‘Digital Bus’ project will also bring the latest ICT technology to remote areas in Thailand.

Mr. Edison Xu, Board Director of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., gave details of the ‘Digital Bus’ project that “On behalf of Huawei, I would like to thank the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society for joining the project kick-off event and thank the Singhapahu Prasanmit Aupatham School for this cooperation. We hope this project will enrich people’s lives with digital and open a new window of opportunities for Thai people and bridge the digital divide gap. I am so honored to be involved in the launching of the ‘Digital Bus’ project to offer opportunities for Thai students and citizens to access fundamental ICT knowledge and skills. Huawei has joined forces with industry experts to co-develop training courses that are practical and accessible. In addition to a fundamental knowledge of the ICT industry and hands-on experiences to help enhance overall digital skills, Huawei’s courses will cover cybersecurity issue and how to use digital technology appropriately. In the first step, Huawei plans to deploy the ‘Digital Bus’ to provide digital training, free of charge, in 10 provinces, covering more than 40 remote communities and 1,500 students in Thailand. And we will continuously work with government and schools to narrow Thailand’s digital talent gap.”

Mr. Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), participated in the ‘Digital Bus’ project launch event and gave a speech that “On behalf of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, I would like to thank Huawei and all stakeholders for their dedication and perseverance to achieve this ‘Digital Bus’ project. The government continues to push Thailand to become a technological leader and digital hub in ASEAN region. People with digital skills and ICT knowledge is a crucial foundation to help us achieve this goal. I believe that by facilitating our students, it will lead to our country sustainable development.”

Under the government’s concrete strategy to develop the digital economy and technology for Thailand along with contributions from the private sector, Thailand’s digital infrastructure has grown rapidly in the past few years. During this change, Thai government strives to strengthen collaboration with Huawei. The government aims to use digital innovation to drive the education sector and effectively develop Thai people’s skills.
