Huawei’s Li Peng: Embrace 5G-A for Next-Level Experience Management

Li Peng, Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales and Services at Huawei, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Embracing 5G-A and Moving Towards a New Era of Experience Management” during the 2024 MWC Shanghai. He believes that with the joint efforts of leading global operators and partners, networks, services, and ecosystems have paved the way for large-scale commercial use of 5G-A. The industry needs to seize the opportunity of “supply and demand leap”, accelerate capability aggregation and model innovation, and move towards a new era of experience management.

Li Peng said: “Facing the accelerating mobile AI era, operators can provide users with differentiated experience services and stimulate potential demand through the aggregation of network, cloud and intelligence. At the same time, they can accelerate business model innovation from single dimension to multi-dimensional, from traffic management to experience management, create greater value and lead the industry development in the mobile AI era.”

Li Peng emphasized that high-quality supply is an important source for leading and creating new demand. Taking the development of the aviation industry as an example, in the 1970s, airlines opened a new chapter in the experience management of the aviation industry by providing differentiated cabin services such as business class and first class, and launching personalized services such as VIP lounges and third-party rights. In the past, the mobile communications industry has achieved vigorous development through continuous technological evolution and business model innovation. At present, the mobile industry urgently needs to provide “innovative supply”, seize the opportunity of 5G-A technology evolution and the coordinated development of “network cloud intelligence”, stimulate users’ potential needs, seize the opportunity of a new round of industry leap, and achieve healthy and rapid growth.

Deterministic network experience stimulates users’ differentiated potential needs

Different groups of people have different needs for network experience. For example, business travelers, live streaming influencers, and gamers pay attention to the downlink rate, uplink rate, and network latency of the network respectively. Based on the 10-fold increase in bandwidth capacity, 5G-A can achieve user experience guarantee anytime and anywhere through wireless QCI scheduling and GBR guarantee, as well as the intelligent evaluation and strategy generation of users and services by the core network NWDAF. Operators can design differentiated packages for different groups of people and provide personalized services to increase revenue and improve the stickiness of high-end customers.

Cloud phones aggregate “connectivity + computing power + ecology” to define a new paradigm of innovative supply

Based on the large bandwidth, low latency 5G network guarantee, and the on-demand deployment of cloud resource pool capabilities, cloud phone services can better meet the needs of different groups for real-time computing power, data isolation, and interactive collaboration. For example, Zhejiang Mobile aggregates the capabilities of computing, network, and cloud, and releases the “Cloud T Card”. Users can enjoy the rights of short dramas and member content in one stop through the high-definition cloud phone entrance. Operators have achieved multi-dimensional monetization by providing 1TB of directional traffic and high, medium and low-level computing power, and have achieved expansion from forward operations to backward operations by sharing third-party rights.

5G-A network capability upgrades to enrich products for toB scenarios

5G-A has enhanced capabilities in uplink and downlink, latency, positioning, deterministic networks, etc., which can enable the further upgrade of more than 30,000 industry-specific networks that have been implemented, and move from production assistance to the core of production to create greater industry value. On top of 5G basic network services, operators can further provide network SLA guarantee services, and superimpose more refined value-added services such as high-reliability network design, edge intelligence, and high-precision positioning. In the train operation link, the high-precision positioning capability in the tunnel is utilized, combined with 5G video automatic inspection, AI vehicle detection and other applications, to achieve intelligent operation and maintenance of the entire train line.

Aggregation of “communication + perception + data” capabilities to explore new scenarios for low-altitude economy

5G-A introduces perception capabilities to mobile networks for the first time. Through inter-sensory integration, one network can realize the tracking and positioning, ranging and speed measurement, and imaging recognition of drones. The 5G-A inter-sensory network helps low-altitude logistics improve flight efficiency by 30% and save 50% of delivery time. Operators can expand from traditional number cards and traffic sales to network experience guarantee services, and can provide value-added services such as perception, integration, data management and analysis according to the route.

2024 will mark the first year of commercial 5.5G, and F5.5G gigabit optical network deployment has already begun. Synergies across networks, cloud, and intelligence are set to give rise to pervasive intelligent applications and increasingly diverse user experiences. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, Huawei will dive into exciting topics at this year’s MWC Shanghai, like how to amplify 5G’s success in the 5.5G era and how to tap into the potential of operator revenue growth to bring us even faster to the intelligent world.
