Le Du: Reigns Supreme as Asia’s Top Restaurant 2023

Le Du, a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, has taken the number one spot in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2023. The annual list is compiled from the votes of more than 300 food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and culinary experts across Asia. The awards ceremony, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, was held at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

Le Du’s win makes it the best restaurant in Asia and Thailand, beating out some of the continent’s most iconic establishments. The restaurant is known for its innovative and modern approach to Thai cuisine, combining French techniques and local ingredients to create dishes that are both inventive and deeply rooted in tradition.

In addition to Le Du’s top prize, several other restaurants were recognized at the awards ceremony. Labyrinth, a Singaporean restaurant, won the Highest Climber Award after moving up 29 spots to take the 11th spot on the list. Avartana in Chennai, India, was named the Highest New Entry, while Manila’s Toyo Eatery won the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award.

Singapore’s Zen won the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, and Louisa Lim from Odette in Singapore was named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef, sponsored by Valrhona. Della Tang of Ensue in Shenzhen won the inaugural Beronia Asia’s Best Sommelier Award, and Hiroyasu Kawate of Tokyo’s Florilège won the Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award.

This year’s list includes seven new entries from across Asia, including Chennai’s Avartana, Singapore’s Born, Manila’s Metiz, Beijing’s Refer, and Bangkok’s Ms Maria & Mr Singh, Potong, and Baan Tepa.
