L’oréal Wins Un Women 2021 Thailand Women Empowerment Principles (Weps) Awards For Community Engagement And Partnerships To Promote Gender Equality

L’Oréal Thailand has won the UN Women 2021 Thailand Women’s Empowerment Principles Awards (WEPs) in the category of Community Engagement and Partnerships.

The first-ever UN Women WEPS Award was held in Thailand to honor organizations with good practices based on the principles of women empowerment and promoting gender equality in the business sector.

“L’Oréal Thailand is extremely proud to receive the WEPs Award. We place great emphasis on upholding the principles of empowering and promoting gender equality, along with working on a variety of community outreach programs. One of the projects that we have been working on for 19 years is the ‘For Women in Science’, which provide fellowships to women post-doctoral scientists in order to support them in creating researches that can have positive impact on the community, society, environment, and nation, and offer them international network. Aside from this, we also support underprivileged women through vocational skills training program, ‘Beauty for a Better Life’, which trains hairdressing skills in order to provide job opportunities and improve their quality of life. More recently, L’Oréal Paris brand is working towards the ‘Stand Up Against Street Harassment’ training program in Thailand, providing online training to organizations and individuals to help both men and women to safely intervene if they witness or experience street harassment.” said Ines Caldeira, CEO, L’Oréal Thailand.

The WEPs Awards is an annual event by WeEmpowerAsia, a programme funded by and in partnership with the European Union (EU). UN Women organized the Thailand WEPs Awards in collaboration with the SEC, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN), and key supporters, including the Thailand Management Association (TMA), the Global Compact Network Thailand (GCNT), and the Kenan Foundation Asia. The Awards were promoted in collaboration with the European Association for Business and Commerce (EABC) and the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce (FTCC).

The Awards recognized outstanding efforts to promote gender equality in the private sector under six categories: Leadership Commitment, Gender-Inclusive Workplace, Gender-Responsive Marketplace, Community Engagement and Partnerships, Transparency and Reporting, and Youth Leadership. This year, three SME Awards were also given to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Community Engagement and Partnerships category recognized companies that champion gender inclusivity through community engagement and collaboration with social organisations, international organizations and other relevant stakeholders through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or philanthropy programs. Awardees in this category also carry the cause through advocating for gender equality within their respective industries.

As a winner of the Community, Engagement and Partnerships category, our company has also been nominated to progress to the Regional Asia Pacific WEPs Awards set to be held on November 18 along with laureates from other countries.

The Awards place a spotlight on companies and leaders behind initiatives and practices that advance gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment in the business sector through the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Today, over 5,600 companies from around the world have signed up to show their commitment to foster business practices that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through the WEPs, including more than 1,500 from Asia-Pacific. L’Oréal Thailand is also now a WEPs signatory.
