Riding the Retro Wave with Hi Apaporn Nakornsawan at Lost & Found

Those looking to kick off Thai New Year celebrations with a heady dose of nostalgia are in for a treat. On 10 April, one of Thailand’s biggest “Siamese soul” performers, the one and only Hi Apaporn Nakornsawan, will be taking to the stage of Lost & Found at Avani+ Riverside Bangkok hotel to perform live at the bar’s Songkran concert.

As one of the biggest Thai country music stars, Hi Apaporn Nakornsawan helped popularise the traditional music genre known as luk thung. Blending poetic lyrics about the rural lifestyle with a carnival-like performance of backup dancers dressed in fancy costumes, the signer’s unique brand of luk thung is the perfect fit for Lost & Found’s eccentric extravagance. For one night only, the dreamlike venue, which has been compared to The Matrix universe more than once, will be reverberating with the thumping drums and pulsating riffs of Hi Apaporn’s folk-pop music.

The brainchild of nightlife mogul Ashley Sutton, the creator of whimsical Bangkok hotspots Iron Fairies, Maggie Choo’s and Sing Sing Theater as well as Dragonfly and Dear Lilly in Hong Kong, Lost & Found prides itself in being an inclusive venue celebrating diversity and creativity in all its forms. Its rotating roster of theatrical performances includes drag shows, burlesque, puppetry and live acts ranging from the chart-topping artists of today to the revered Thai performers of the past.

On the fittingly eclectic menu from the newly appointed head chef Kullanit Vorawanichar are upscale bar bites like the baby shrimp chips with kimchi tartar, patatas bravas with chorizo and beef jus or the rainbow lollipops. The Thai-born chef who trained in some of the most prestigious kitchens in Thailand and France, makes sure what’s on the plate doesn’t pale in comparison to the flamboyance displayed on the stage. On the beverage list are the likes of Queen of Lost Souls, Vaudeville and Rainbow — as playful and inventive as the décor, the menu and the acts.

Lost & Found is located on the 3rd floor of Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel / Riverside Plaza. Doors open at 8pm. Ticket prices start at THB 1,500 net including two drinks; a limited number of VIP tables is available.
