Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok Partners with Diversey to Activate Sustainability Initiative Linens for Life™ by Donating 100 Duvets to Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation

Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok has partnered with Diversey to collect a hundred discarded duvets to donate to Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation to be upcycled into reusable face masks, aprons, bedsheets and more.Reusing these linens will have a trifold impact: it will prevent reusable linen from being sent to landfills, provide a source income and livelihood, and aid with immediate relief efforts with reusable masks and more for the community.

Discarded linen was collected by the hotel’s housekeeping teams, and channelled to the local non-profit organisation the Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation for upcycling.

Linens for Life™ has a simple but powerful objective: to empower needy people or at-risk families with support from Diversey and its hotel partners. With this programme, the Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation are able to train underprivileged women to convert linens discarded by hotels into new and useful items that can be sold, hence helping the women to earn an income. At the same time, instead of sending these linens to landfills or incinerators, hotels can upcycle their unwanted linens in a way that makes a real difference, helping people in need, such as those who have lost everything in a natural disaster; refugees; and women who have been rescued from sex trafficking or domestic abuse situations, among others.

For this project, the linens will be upcycled into face masks and others and distributed to low-income families within their community. This also allows the Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation to resell the masks, thereby gaining a source of income to improve the quality of life of all those in need in the local community, especially women and children.

The Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation provides single mothers with basic training in how to sew and use sewing machines while sending their children to their Day Care Centre during the day.

“Sustainability is a key driver for Kempinski hotels. Our objective is to provide hotels with best practices in being more sustainable in our operations. We are proud to partner with Diversey and the Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok Thailand Foundation for this milestone collaboration, which is both an opportunity and a responsibility,” said Mr Richard Schestak, Managing Director of Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok.

The masks and more will be produced by the mothers of the Fatima Self-Help Training Centre in Bangkok, a local non-profit organisation that connects women with jobs and industries while providing a plethora of benefits, such as education, financial and social inclusion, and vocational training.
