Thailand Post & Trade Dept: 20K Rural Drop-Offs!

The Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, through the partnership between the Department of Internal Trade and Thailand Post will elevate business opportunities and the e-commerce sector by introducing ‘Thailand Post @Thong Fah’ service points. These points aim to expand the parcel drop-off network for e-commerce, to cover more areas of the country. The collaboration is geared towards fostering growth and convenience for entrepreneurs, facilitating seamless parcel delivery from drop-off points scattered across all areas, supported by efficient transportation systems. This initiative is expected to generate revenue for over 20,000 Thong Fah stores nationwide, commencing from April 2024.

Mr Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, disclosed,

“The ‘Thailand Post @Thong Fah’ project signifies a collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, leveraging the existing Thong Fah store network nationwide as parcel drop-off points to mutually enhance the service network and capabilities of Thailand Post for public service. For Thong Fah stores, this presents an opportunity for business enhancement, increased competitiveness, diversified revenue channels, and entry into the parcel delivery realm with a more digitalized system. This will facilitate online merchants and the public, mitigating travel costs and time constraints, such as peak hours or selecting convenient time slots.”

Mr. Prasert Chantararuangthong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, revealed the ministry’s ongoing efforts in developing digital economy and society policies, empowering relevant agencies to collaborate across various sectors to harness digital advantages. Retail and e-commerce, as rapidly growing sectors, require quality transportation services and extensive networks to ensure continuous convenience and confidence among users. The ministry has tasked Thailand Post, in collaboration with the Department of Internal Trade, with developing a system to expand drop-off points at Thong Fah stores, offering convenience to e-commerce entrepreneurs, facilitating additional income generation, and enhancing the accessibility and convenience of parcel delivery with drop-off points spanning across the country.

“Thailand Post plays an indispensable role in driving economic, societal, and community growth. As a state enterprise, it remains competitive, agile, networked, with robust data, service systems, and technologies catering to diverse needs, supported by the expertise of postal officers. These distinct advantages will unlock opportunities for all, propelling the digital economy forward without limitations.”

Dr Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, CEO of Thailand Post, explained: “Initially, the ‘Thailand Post @Thong Fah’ service points will operate as parcel drop-off points, requiring senders to pre-prepare their parcels. Thong Fah store service providers will scan the barcode on the box via an application to register the items into the system. Subsequently, Thailand Post staff will collect the parcels for onward delivery to recipients. The system will calculate revenue for Thong Fah stores, with service commencing in April 2024, during the operating hours of each Thong Fah store. Subsequently, the service will expand to encompass both parcel drop-off and pick-up points for recipients. Through this collaboration, Thailand Post’s network will surpass 50,000 locations nationwide.”
