Thailand reports 18,027 new cases and 133 deaths on Sunday

Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, has reported Covid-19 numbers on Sunday logging 18,027 new cases and 133 deaths. Of the new infections, 17,653 were from among the general public, and 374 occurred in prisons.

Since April 1, Thailand has recorded 586,451 cumulative cases with 377,896 recoveries. Meanwhile, 205,002 people are still receiving treatment.

As infection numbers in Bangkok keep rising, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is working on setting up enough community isolation facilities to cover all 50 districts as many cases can not stay isolated due to limited space in the patient’s house. Currently, there are 40 facilities located in the capital but that number will soon be increased to 60 according to BMA.

At the same time, case-searching teams will identify infected residents in communities by using antigen test kits. Those found infected and not already in home isolation will be transferred to community isolation and have another RT-PCR test to confirm the positive result before being moved to a hospital.
